A couple of people I know (friends of friends) have seen some of my work and have agreed to do a couple of shoots with me for a bit of fun. I want to experiment with some new styles and some new gear.

This is where I am getting a little stuck, I am a bloke and I know diddly squat about female clothing!

I have a couple of "visions" in my head of shoots that would work with the particular people in mind, but I am finding it almost impossible to explain easily what that vision is to the girls in question.

So how does everyone else deal with this? You have a willing "model" (using the term loosley here!), and you have to arange a shoot... do you tell the model what to wear, give her ideas, provide the clothes? :help:

Interested to hear thoughts ideas and stories that might help me get this sorted... I know it can work ! :)

my friend who is venturing into the makeup artist world and i are having friends model with different styles to take shots for our portfolios...what weve told our models is that we want to do certain styles on that day for example 1940's, Emo, Goth, Funky, natural etc then we have told them to bring along lots of clothes they think will work (and if their doing their own hair and make up maybe you could research the style you want and add images to give them some ideas) bring it all along and then you get to choose which you think would be suitable....then we have been adding props with items or location etc hope that helps? good luck, cant wait to see some of the shots :D

Generally I would let the model know the style I am looking for and it would be up to them to bring what they think is suitable. If your shoot is something out of the ordinary however, I would expect to provide clothing if necessary or at least contribute to it if it's something she's unlikely to wear again.
