Hi all

I was just wondering if you could give me some advice on my current workflow.

At the moment I shoot in RAW and then import the files onto LR 4. Once I have fiddled about in LR I then export these into a folder on my desktop. I then go into PS5 and do more fiddling, however these files are now a JPEG file.
Is there any way I can use both software using RAW files?

I hope this makes sense

Many thanks

I normally make initial adjustments to raw files in LR4, then right click and open them in Photoshop. This creates a PSD file.

Not everything requires work in Photoshop of course, the tools in LR4 are sufficient for probably 75% of the jobs I do these days - global tonal adjustments, dust removal, cropping, straightening, sharpening, etc.

Thanks

Do you save it in photoshop? or go back to LR

Many thanks

Lightroom 5 then export to cs6 edit and save

Most of the time its all done in LR, but if I do use PS I open from LR and save back in LR, that way I know where it all is, and it preserves the layers too.

i dont use Light room, maybe i should??

my method is.

Shoot raw, open in adobe raw, adjust anything like white balance /clarity/vibrance/exposure
save as jpeg
view folder in adobe bridge
open jpegs into PS5
adjust and save into an "edited" folder within the original folder
any images i dont want i draw a big red x in photoshop through them so i can see from the thumbnail which ones to delete once ive resaved them all..

its not the most efficiant way but it seems to work ok for me... doesnt take me too long to go through big batches of images ,

Bit long winded mate... Use lighroom and bulk save items :-)

I would questions steps 2, 3 & 4 above. Why save as a jpg and then use Bridge to open in PS5? Why not go straight from ACR into PS5? I never save as a jpg unless I am absolutely certain I'm not going to edit that image again. Even then jpg's are only temporary files to me - save them for printing or uploading to the web and then delete them again - as all the edit details are in the LR catalogue or PS sidecar file so i can reproduce them again easily.

Did you know you can do batch editing in ACR just like LR exponents can?

A quick question if I may

I'm currently using Elements 11 to do all of my processing including RAW does lightroom have any advantages of just using elements alone?

thanks and sorry for the thread hi jack

LR really comes into its own when you have large quantities of images to sort through, quickly.
