I am after some advice on workflow.
So far i have been using a laptop with Canon Dpp and Elements 8.
I usually import using Dpp and adjust levels etc in that then use elements for the organiser and if I want more editing (which is rare).

My laptop gave up a few weeks ago and I have since got a Macbook Pro. It comes with iPhoto for an organiser and I can sill set it to edit with Dpp but the mac interface is a bit awkward. My copy of Elements isn't Mac compatible. Is it worth upgrading to Elements 10 or looking at Aperture? Is iPhoto good enough for an organiser?

Any advice would be appreciated as I have a fresh hard drive and would like to get things organised properly.

I don't think my budget will stretch to Lightroom.
 
I switched to Mac a little over a year ago and found iphoto a huge pain in the backside when it came to workflow/organisation etc. Didn't get on with Aperture either. I felt it didn't have the levels of control over an image like the controls offered by PS/PSE/Lightroom etc etc. It was too basic for my needs. Some people on this site will undoubtedly get on with Aperture and find that it does everything required of it.

My workflow is very simple and is confined to PSE 9 only. Basic adjustments in ACR and then a few tweaks in PSE.

iPhoto & Aperture are similar in workflow, of you want a combination of iPhoto & DPP Aperture is the one to go for. If you want something like Elements, you really need to get Elements. FWIW the app store version integrates with iPhoto, which I found better than the bundled organisation software with the boxed Elements.
 
I find iPhoto is fine for an organiser. Simple folder structure, stored by uploads by date etc,.

I also do all my editing in it as I am what you would call a very basic editor. Trialled Aperture and Lightroom and they clearly have more functions but not functions I really use. I find Aperture easier/quicker to use than Lightroom but I have been an Apple user for 12 years and just prefer the UIs that Apple seems to offer.
 
It seems like Apple are bringing iPhoto and Aperture closer together from their keynote at WWDC yesterday.

Thanks for the advice.
I am go ring Aperture a go as I mainly want organising software and basic adjustments.
I got my Mac as a bolt on when buying a couple for work (CAD use) and also dot a years one to one lessons at Apple. Whilst I was there I had a play and quite liked the feel of it.

The clincher was when they told me that if I bought one copy for work we can load it on all the work computers logged into that ID. Job done £54 and loaded on 3 computers!
