Often in various topics I see the word "workflow", but what does it actually mean when used by Photographers ?

Usually means from capture to output of the final image. Includes taking the images, sorting through them and picking which ones will be used. Backing up the images in case the files are corrupted. Post production on the chosen images, could include colour correction and retouching, naming and cataloging the finished images, could include adding keywords to the metadata but you might do that during import. And output of images depending on their final use, web, print etc.

When you shoot hundreds or thousands of images on each job, just selecting which ones are keepers cam take a long time. A good structured workflow becomes very important.

Example. You shoot 2000 images at a wedding, if you spend 6 seconds deciding if an image is good enough and tagging it for keep or delete, it will take 1 minute to review 10 images. 1 hour to go through 600 images, over 3 hours to go through them all. It really starts to add up.
