Ok, I'm getting myself all confused and wondered if anyone can help me get unmuddled!

I used to use PS for editing pics (CS5), but now use lightroom 3 which I love. However, there are still small things I hop back to PS for. I usually go via the 'edit in photoshop' option from lr. The problem is when I then go back to lr, the working file then becomes a tiff, and when I try to run presets etc, they react differently as to how my RAW files do.

Is there a better file format I should be saving work in from Photoshop? Or even better is there a way for it to keep it saved in my RAW format (currently .MRW)? Am I missing something really obvious?

I have tried googling, but am just getting myself more confused.:shrug:

Ok, so I might have answered my own question in that it seems that you can't! So I think I need to do most of my adjustments in LR first, then just switch to PS for final editing.
Is there anyway to get my TIFF files to react to Presets the same was as they do the RAW? I thought as tiff keep all the data they would react the same? Instead, they look the same as when I run them on a JPEG.

You have to handle TIFF files in Lightroom differently from RAW. The data they contain is different, so in many cases you can't use some of the presets. For example there is no data about the conditions that the image was photographed under so things such as colour temp are not applicable.

I would do as you are doing as much in Lightroom and then , and only then exporting to Photoshop for the things tha Photoshop does. It can seem a bit of a pain, but actions such as sharpening and noise reduction are probably best done on the original RAW image.

However I wouldn't get too hung up on this especially if you need to make some small adjustment after spending some time retouching the image in Photoshop
 
That makes sense thanks. I think I'll just have to sort out some actions in photoshop that give similar results to my LR presets, just so I can have some consistency on images I've had to edit first.
