Hello, all!

With the very successful and fun Brighton Natural Light Portraiture workshop behind us, Steve (Steveinspain) has offered to help organize the next one near his home in Spain. This is a fabulous opportunity to combine work and play in an amazing location.

This workshop is tentatively being planned for March or April, avoiding dates over Easter. I'm considering making this workshop a 5 - 6 day event with three teaching days, provided people are up for being away that long. Traditionally I've taught three days straight to allow people to minimize the amount of time they're away from home. A longer event, though, will allow for greater retention and more hands-on shooting and feedback. If attendees are willing and able to spend the extra few days, I'll design the workshop to take advantage of that schedule.

The cost, of course, will depend on the costs to produce the workshop, most importantly the venue cost. The lower that cost, the more affordable the tuition will be.

If you are at all interested in attending this workshop, please indicate your interest by visiting http://www.cheryljacobsworkshops.com/spain.html and submitting the online form. Submitting it does NOT obligate you to attend; it just helps for planning purposes and ensures you will receive workshop details as they become available.

For general information about this workshop, please see my website at www.cheryljacobsworkshops.com. (Yes, I do realize the opening page indicates I am not currently teaching workshops -- I am making an exception because it's going to be too much fun to pass up!)

Please don't hesitate to ask questions in this thread or via PM / e-mail. I'd love to hear from you.

very much hoping to come to this one.

Wish me luck with the wife.....

I've registered already CJ

will it be the same as the Brighton course, or something different? (how to take portraits when full of Sangria???)

 Holy POO!! I just went and 'suggested' it to Mr LL and he thinks its a fab idea, might even come along himself [not for the teaching, just the relaxation/holiday bit] :woot:

**starts groping down the back of sofa cushions to find pennies to put in a jar** :D

I *think* I registered myself and Beverley as interested. I've had a couple of glasses of wine since so can't remember for sure lol

LadyLens - I hope to get down to Mojacar over the next few days to look into accomodation and a location - Mojacar is a touristy place, with seveal hotels, places to eat and drink, and is on the beach - easy to find out via google..
A car will be needed if anyone wants to be elsewhere, but hire is cheap, and I am in Lubrin, which is 40 mins drive away (a google might reveal a strange result, but scroll down to find out - there ain't much near us bar a few rural retreats, that are remote, but unspoilt and lovely - will let you know more as soon as I can, but work has suddenly got busy on me, hence my delay in finding out anything...

No worries Steve, Mr LL has informed me he has been to somewhere near Mojacar to see bike races many years ago, so at least he knows where it is if nothing else

Going to start doing a bit of research from here into accomodation, flight costs etc, but any recommendations from yourself as and when you have chance will of course be much appreciated.

NEWS !!

OK, I have been looking into locations, and to me, it seems like the Hotel Tikar (www.hoteltikar.com) is ideal. In Garrucha, a fishing port, with nice beach (though don't expect too much sunbathing in March) there are a few good basic Spanish restaurants, a couple of expensive seafood places, plenty of bars etc, and the staff at the hotel speak English. It is a small 6 bedroom place, run by Sean and Beatriz, (who seem very friendly), so if some room sharing can be sorted, then we could easily take the place over. They serve good food, I am told, and have an art gallery, a garden and a roof terrace. Buses go to Mojacar (google mojacar - it is a busy tourist resort) every half hour or so. There are other places to stay in Garrucha, but you can look into that yourselves - I will try, but my time will be limited. Mojacar has lots of places to stay, but you may want to hire a car - maybe sharing would be an idea.
Easyjet fly to Almeria, an hour away, or both Murcia and Alicante are within 2 hours or so, and are served by many airlines.
I suggest that we aim for some time in the first week or so of March, as the prices go up as we get closer to Easter, as do flights. Bed and breakfast is 59 euros per room, based on 2 people sharing.
I am sure CJ will be posting over the next few days, but we will need to get some idea of numbers, as the hotel will be getting booked before too long...
The other place I looked at is a bigger place - Hotel Puntazo, in Mojacar. It is bigger, with all that means - slightly bland, pretty bland food, often full of blue-rinsed pensioners speaking loudly in English, but it is OK - I have stayed there many times (before my blue-rinse days..) and it is more expensive. It's advantage is that they can accommodate everyone, and it is on the beach 'strip' so there may be more places to go eat, but those that are open at that time of year tend to be places that I would not choose....(the 'match' and sunday roast with 'Michael' playing his guitar on Wednesday..?)

So, what do you think ?

Just to add that there are companies that do package holidays to Mojacar, not sure who, but some cheap deals might be found, as early March is before school holidays and Easter...
I think that Ryanair and another airline also fly to Almeria - I'll look into it more soon

Hi,

This is my first post in this forum and I have been introduced to it by Steveinspain via another group where I saw his post about the forthcoming workshop.

I think Monarch are the other airline that fly to Almeria and there are lots of car hire places at the airport. When we go for four days it is actually cheaper to hire a car (around 100 Euros) than it is to get a taxi to the airport (75 euros each way for a few miles from Garrucha.)

I think I might start a new thread about this, as this one is sinking slowly into oblivion - rather like myself..

c'mon Steve there's only 12 posts - and most of them are pretty close to topic!!
hang in there

mebbe some pictures to spice it up?!?

I've just sent an e-mail to everyone who signed up for information via my site. I do believe this workshop is going to happen, and I am very excited about it!

There is still room for more participants, so please don't hesitate if you're interested.

Steve, thanks for all your hard work!

Just carrying on from steveinspains point about easyjet flights.

They seem to be cheapest is you can fly from Standsted.
You can pick up a return flight from Standsted - Almeria for around £54.95 inc taxes + travel insurance, which is pretty good
That's for March 6th-13th, but all flights around those dates and earlier are pretty cheap.
Don't know if that helps anyone, but it give's you an idea of flight costs.

Cheaper to travel to Spain than it is to travel to Brighton lol

Gandhi, excellent! You'll receive an e-mail shortly.

Just in -- I'm working on a book of my work (not a "how to" book) that should (fingers crossed) be finished before the workshop. If that's the case, I will have a complimentary copy for each workshop attendee.

Just to bring this back to the top, looks like we might have the hotel sorted, so look hard at that diary - 10 - 14th March - come a few days before or stay after, and enjoy a few days in what I think is a lovely area. Those that have met CJ will know what good value and how much she has to pass on, and those that have met me will know that you'll enjoy the days off as a break from me !!!

I've registered for information on this also.

Not a guarantee yet as we're having out engagement party at some point in March - but would love to attend this workshop with CJ :)

Who's getting engaged Lee - you ???
And despite the hours you spend at work ?
Does she know what you are like ?
Maybe she knows that with all the time you spend working, you won't have time to check the credit card bill after she goes shopping..

Im allowed to come to this one! I shall be seeing you all in March.

Her indoors will be coming too, but not for the photography. Anybody elses partners going to keep her company whilst we are all at school?

Hi Steve

Aye - she's not daft! We actually got engaged a couple of weeks ago, but with Christmas, the new business and a skiing holiday in February, we've just got no time to get anything organised this side of March.

Are partners allowed to come on this trip ?

my "senior manager" will be "in country"
I expect Mrs Steve's a Pain will be there also

and isn't CJ threatening us with Mr. CJ?

Cool
