I came across this humorous post on a fb photography group Im on, felt the need to share its message here.

This was posted by some American photographer:

**Photographer Looking For Hardworking People! (Kansas City)
As a photographer, I'm asked quite a bit to work for no pay. At first I was completely annoyed but then I realized, there are probably lots people who work for free all the time.

If you're that person, I want you to work for me!

I'm looking for all kinds of people with different talents and skills. As long as you're willing to not be paid, I'm interested in you. Tell me what you can do well and I'll probably hire you. This is a great opportunity to build your experience and portfolio. If you do a great job, I'll spread the word! As your reputation grows, you'll get all kinds of offers to continue to work for free. Everyone will love and appreciate you and if there's others working at the same time, just think of the networking you can do with others who are willing to work for free.

But wait, there's more! I'll even give you an honorary title of your choosing to impress your future employer and friends. How does Assistant To The President sound? Both men and women will drop their panties when they hear that title.

Send me a detailed description of your experience, references and when you can get started.

I look forward to you working for me for free soon!**

That's actually hilarious! However, I do see the up and down side of working for no payment. I do it now and then for portfolio work. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going out my way to look for it. And I usually demand compensation in the form of travel expenses or studio fees. But I do know some people that are still in college doing anything and everything and not recouping any loses.

While I agree with it, it's a different scenario, the people who would work as second shooter/ assistant for free would be the ones who aren't good enough presumably?

It's calling out the organisations who expected skilled professionals to work to a professional standard, for zero remuneration, apparently because you should just be so damn proud to be breathing the same air as the people at that organisation.

For a recent example, check out Tennis Australia's advert for photographers to cover the Australian Open.
