Is there anything you remember being told, or maybe something happening to you, eg advice by a parent/G parent, that influenced your way of thinking or decision making as an adult?
Have you continued that `advice` as a parent, to your children?


Do unto other's as they do unto you.......but do it first!


Stand your young child (probably need to be 5+ yrs old to remember AND understand) on the window ledge (downstairs only btw! :D ) & tell them to leap into your outstretched arms.
As they do, you drop your arms while taking a step backwards................ouch :crying:
Lesson one in life.........if you can't trust your Dad, you can't trust anyone! :cool:

No, not that I can think of right now. My son somehow survived our rather inept attempts at first time parenthood - in the absence of grandparents or anyone else who'd been through this learning curve - and my daughter probably got some benefit from the test drive with her brother, but they've both turned out remarkably well!

And, the old classic : Never volunteer for anything.
One from a mate who did a lot of climbing: Gravity ALWAYS works.

That was something my Dad used to say too.
He also used to say "You get what you pay for." (meaning `quality`) & always practised that when purchasing anything. If there were 2 identical items @ different prices.....he'd always opt for the more expensive.
 
Another of my Dad's; "There's no such thing as cheap car insurance, tyres or brake pads"

"Do to others what you would have them do to you" is kinda different...

My father encouraged me to stand on my own two feet. He told me that when I started work and got out into the big bad world nobody would give a bent penny for me. Boy was he right.

If the two items were indeed identical, and only the price differed (eg from two different outlets), then buying the most expensive one makes no sense.

No matter how wrong she is, the missus is always right.
 
When I was recalled from leave to go to the Falklands in 1982 my Dad wrote me a letter and ended it "............and don't get yourself killed. It'll upset your Mother"

Seemed pretty sensible to me :)
 
My Granddad told me "You'll chase women until one catches you"

My Dad came out with a pearler once..... I'd been suffering with Carpel Tunnel for a while so the hospital gave me a nice "NHS brown" wrist support. I went straight to work after getting it and suffered abuse all day. The support was on my left wrist and I'm left handed so it was pretty much open season.

After suffering taunts all day, I got home a bit battle weary, Dad saw me come through the front door, looked at the support and I was ready for some comforting words but he had other ideas and said "Didn't I tell you to swap at 99 Son?"..... Cheers Dad! :lol:
 
My Father was a man of few words, I remember one morning he said to me "Son"

and more seriously - you nearly always know what the right thing to do is, its choosing to do it thats the hard part.
