Hi all,

I'm desperately trying to get my wordpress based website listed higher in google searches. I'd downloaded a widget for wordpress which has added the details onto every page, but I'm not seeing any benefits.

Is there a quick and easy way for me to start climbing higher? I'm not listed anywhere on Google at the moment. :'(

Can you find your site at all; if not check your wordpress privacy settings, they might be set so search engine can crawl your site.
If you have managed to add decent SEO to the pages on your site then it could take weeks before these are picked up.

In short, there is no quick and easy way to get a decent ranking. You have to make search engines think your site is important, multiple links from other sites, number of hits per day, etc... but there are no hard and fast rules.

I'm really no expert and I have no idea what your chosen search terms are, or how you are using them or whether on-site SEO is your only strategy.
But if you look at my signature, which appears on all my posts, here and on other forums. In no way would I abuse the situation, but consider a few hundred links that say 'yourtown - yourtypeof photography' out there on the internet. Do you think that such a thing would boost your rankings by itself? (there are over 5000 external links to my site according to Google)

And if you did that, some curious people would also click your link - Google adds weight to scores for traffic. When I'm not running an adwords campaign, about 50% of my traffic comes from referring sites (external links) now even if you take the view that they're useless visitors (not likely to be potential customers), they are doubling my traffic, therefore leading Google to believe I'm twice as important as I am.

I tend to find that most people who complain about the hard work they've put into SEO not working have usually given it about 10 minutes thought and a bit less effort. The people who say their SEO is paying off spend at least 10 minutes a day at it, and it pays off after a few months.

I can't seem to find it at all, I'll have a look at the Wordpress settings and see what I can find out. The Privacy tab on my dashboard says that Search Engines can index my site, but obviously it's taking a time!

How long since you added the widget? What widget is it?

Added the widget (which is the All in One SEO Pack from Semper Fi web designs) maybe 10 days ago and no change at all with anything on Google. I appreciate there are no quick fixes but I'd like to appear somewhere!

Have you made a submission to Google, if this is a new site it can take a while before Google indexes it.

If you post a link you'll get some better help.
