In need of some help transferring my site from sub-directory to my root directory.

I've developed my new wordpress site at http://phototheme.celebrationsphoto.co.uk/wordpress/

I now want to move (or redirect) to www.celebrationsphoto.co.uk.

I've followed the wordpress instructions but, it doesn't want to work.

All my previous wordpress files for my old site in the root directory have been deleted but, I think I'm doing something wrong with the .htaccess and index files.

Can anyone tell me the best way to do this, either by moving or redirecting.

Thanks

are you using a new database, and have you changed the site address in Settings>General?

Hi Hugh,

Yes, using a new database.

Tried changing the site address but, had no effect so, changed it back as I didn't want to lose in completely.

Have you changed both the site address and the wordpress one?

I've followed this method before and it works, making sure ALL the urls in the sql db have been changed >>

Making a bit of progress, can now access the admin area but, nothing shows when I go to the site URL.

Thanks for the help so far guys, I'll get there :)

Make sure you don't have a old index.html in your root, rename or delete the old subfolder you used before as something might still be pointing to it.

Well, I've made sure the addresses are the same in my database and config file but, still only have access to the admin area but, not the website.

Just a thought, does it make a difference if I use "http://www" as opposed to just http or www on their own?

got caught out by this as just done my first ever wordpress migrate to a new webhost and i kept getting that annoying default apache "it works!" page instead of my blog until i figured out to delete the index.html file!

Sorted!

Thanks Frank, missed a couple of instances of the URL in the database.

Thanks again to everyone for the input (y)
