what is your essential plug in list when creating a new website

got a few to build and still learning wordpress myself

what is your fav or most required when building a new site

there is 2 way's to get these plug in's
1) download - i will provide a link to each or you so can download them and install the in the admin panel

2) log in to your admin panel and search for plug in's

All App's / Plug In's Have been Tested By Our Own Member's and they are there recomendations


GENERAL PLUG IN's

jetpack by wordpress.com

lets you add social side of thing's , post to pages ie facebook , twitter , linked in
website stats
comment's and subscription's
post to your account via email

again does all your seo requirement's build's site maps ad helps to link to google web master . bing webmaster etc
to get verifyed it is so simple log in to google wemaster click the verify it will say the code pop this into the google box on the seo plug in and save go back to webmaster and click verify job's done so easy

Following with interest, just started a WordPress site myself. Been looking for a free portfolio/gallery plugin for a bit without any luck so far.

me too one of the reason i started this , these are three good one's i have coe across i did get one where it is a free gallery and you can accept paymetns for pic's but didnt get alot of time to get it sorted propley

Thanks for the list, just a word of caution -

I asked it (Jetpack) to link to my facebook page (Ballpix) but as I was logged in as my name Phil ***** it posted to there instead of my page so you need to make sure you are in the right 'page' if logged into facebook.

One down more to go ;)

There is a option when u 1st go on and u click the page instead of clicking next
 
I use bulletproof security, protects and backs up a lot of the background files that people try to tinker with. Appears to be very comprehensive and well supported.
 
Not sure I can class this as "essential" but have "Ozh' Admin Drop Down Menu" installed on all my blogs. Makes things more productive inwehn using the dashboard for me by moving the menu to the top and showing the entries as drop downs.
 
Where on the dashboard does it let you find plug-ins ?
 
My essentials would be:

Askimet (kills spam comments)
All In One SEO Pack
Jetpack
Google Analytics Input & Google XML Sitemaps (not sure how relevant these 2 are these days...)
Media Library Assistant (great for organising lots of images on a site)

Also heard good things about the NextGen gallery but it was a long time ago that I used it in anger.

InstantWB for running a prototype on a usb stick too
 
We use buddypress as ours is a community site - its excellent. We use quite a few buddypress focused plug-ins as well.
We also use lots of the ones mentioned above. Others not mentioned.....

Hyper Cache - for faster page loading/performance

No Right Click Images - to stop people taking your pics easily

SI CAPTCHA - for comments and prevents spamming

WP Wunderground - weather plug in

WP Smushed.it - reduces image file sizes

WP Mobile Detector - changes to mobile theme when smartphone etc detected

One of the first plugins I install is Tinymce it adds extra buttons/features to your wysiwig Wordpress editor so when writing posts or pages you have more features to enhance your posts/pages like a spelling checker plus a button for justified text and so much more!
