Wordpress duplicate pages appear in the menu

I install a theme.

I create three pages home - galleries - about.

But the page shows a duplicate of Home - Galleries - about

I've spent/wasted all afternoon trying to fix this.
 
Do you mean when you create a new page it adds to the top nav bar?
If so you need to assign each page to a 'parent', e.g. 'galleries'.

So you setup a page for Joe & Mary's Wedding and in the right column you look for the item 'Parent' ... in the click box you select 'Galleries' ... then Joe & Mary's Wedding appears under the tab 'Galleries' on the Home page.

If that's what you mean?
 
No, I mean it duplicates the pages. Here's a screenshot of what is going on.

Stupidly I thought it would be a case of a simple install of the theme/template and easy adaption from there.

I found it really frustrating and if I wasn't going to be able to get off the ground with basic Wordpress, I'm not going to get anywhere with the rest.
 
Okay Robert, these things can be a trial and whilst there are some brilliant photography websites out there just using Wordpress, I couldn't get it to work satisfactorily for me ... until I tried Photocrati.
They do a 30-day money back trial if you don't get on with it (can't see why you wouldn't) and they have a support forum, a really good 'How-to' section which covers just about everything and you can email support and get advice or even hands-on help.
I know you said that you didn't want to spend on a theme but I think you will find that Photocrati will save a lot of stress!

If it's any consolation it seems to be a problem with the theme as I've just installed it, and I get the duplicate navigation out of the box, i.e. without even adding any content.
 
Thanks. I was getting duplicate with another theme I tried too.

Head deep in Dreamweaver now.
