I've been looking around for what seems like months now for an ecommerce gallery that I can sell prints through on my Wordpress site without looking elsewhere are Photoshelter or Zenfolio...

Gallery2 seems to intergrate with Wordpress and has a number of PayPal plug ins to allow online sales to be made.

My question is, has anyone here done this and would they mind sharing their experiences?

Otherwise, are there any more options available to me using Wordpress? I've tried Joomla and couldn't get my head around it and want to stick to a site that I can update when I want, where I want.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is no one using Gallery2 and Wordpress together?

Thanks for the link Chris.

You can create a page in wordpress and use an iframe tag to include your gallery with frameborder="0" to get rid of the iframe border. That should get the two to work together.

There is a plugin for gallery that makes it work with wordpress but I found it to be temperamental and chose the easier route of iframe tag.

iFraming Gallery2 causes problems with some browsers when it comes to making payments, and it isn't a particularly great way to do things anyway.

Just doesn't let you pay. It was a problem for IE, but I can't remember which version, and I can't remember the exact problem. :)

EDIT: I think it just wouldn't transfer the contents of your cart over to PayPal.

I use wordpress for the main site and gallery2 for print purchases but I keep them separate. They're under the same domain but one links to the other and effectively works as a separate entity. I haven't found a good solution to the wordpress/gallery/checkout problem that I'm happy with yet so I'm still using them apart. Sorry, I know that's not helpful, but I have looked long and hard for a decent integration and haven't found it yet so keep them separate.

I'd be interested in any results from this thread as I have a homepage that links to Gallery2. What is it you wish to achieve?

If your using gallery2 and checkout paypal then your must open paypal in a new window. Easily done with target=blank. Keeps your gallery2 integrated within your wordpress site and customers just open the paypal shopping basket when ready to checkout in a new window. This works with all the major browsers that I have tested. IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari.

If you try to open paypal within the iframe it will more than likely kick it back at you and say not secure :nono:

Yeah, that last bit sounds familiar. I still don't like iFrames though.

I actually use Gallery2 bridged with Joomla, so can't offer any advise on the Wordpress side of things. But then Dave (OP) already knows that 'cos I think it was me that caused him to waste his time with Joomla.

(Sorry Dave - shame it didn't work out  )

I'm making sales of prints at the moment but it involves people emailing me for proofs, prices then going on and having to pay by either cheque, PayPal, Bank Transfer etc - it's a time consuming process for both parties and I don't get the conversion rate because of it.

I'm looking to get rid of any barriers for customers who are looking to purchase images. I think a lot of it is based on impulse and if you're having to wait to see proofs and then add a few more stages in to the process then the impulses has gone and they're less likely to buy.

I think I may just have to set up a separate Gallery2 (or whatever I choose) and have it on the omnitog.com URL.

It wasn't just you who persuaded me to use it - my boss is a big advocate of it and said he's help me with it but didn't. Gave up in the end as Wordpress is so easy....

Have you thought about PhotoboxPro, ImagePartner or similar?

I tried embedding my Gallery2 into Wordpress and gave it, it was far too complicated for me. I've been running phpBB forums for years and customise them quite happily but Gallery2 had me stumped to be honest.

Hoping the original OP doesn't mind, but I have a similar issue and hope that awakening this thread may help!

I'm in the process of creating my website in Wordpress and would like to include a shopping basket for sales of the images etc.

It appears that there is a WP and G2 link available, has anyone used it.

Ideally I'd like to add the 'add to shopping' cart and usual print size options to my existing gallaries in WP and use PayPal, but this is all new teritory for me and I'm lost!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Neil

I did try one plugin, but it appeared to mess up the template I was using.

I've also found these but not had cahnce to look in to them properly yet.
The second one may be the better solution, I just hope it can be easily integrated in to the theme template

e store plugin
