Can anyone recommend a free word processing program.
Does not need to have all the facilities of MS Word, but not just as basic as Wordpad.

TIA

We use Open Office at home. It is compatable with MS Office. It can save in a variety of file types and does support most of Word's formating. Even better it is free!

No worries Dougie, hope it works out for you

:plusone: for open office

Plenty thumbs up for Open Office there - cheers folks.

If you dont want the full office suite, you can just download AbiWord on its own, or better still, if you dont want clutter, you can download it as a portable application that you can install on usb or hard disk.

you can get msword for like 90 quid as part of the student and home pack comes with excel and something else. It's industry standard for a reason tbh.

First of all. Many thanks for everyone's input. I am most gratefull.

I did settle for Abiword. It is just under 12 Megs and does everything I need from a word processor.

Another option, if someone searches for this subject in the future is Google Docs, its dead simple and runs in the cloud.
