Got a flickr mail from someone at a marketing company who wanted to use one of my images on their website and some internal stuff.

This is the image.

I've never sold one before and so when she asked if there was a cost, I said "I've never sold an image before.. just beer money would be fine!" "How's 50 quid?" "That'll do nicely."

So that's 50 quid! So I won't be retiring on sale of photos just yet but it was an unexpected sale and I'm quite chuffed.

Well done.... nice to see someone getting a decent price for an image rather than the 10p you get with microstock...

People will probably come on and suggest you should have asked for more but the important thing is that you are happy with the price... although I would ask? did you specify what it can be used for or have you given them full rights to do what they want with it?

Another thought here (congratulations by the way!), is the image not in the public domain now as you posted it on an open forum?

Just came to mind - I don't know the ins and outs as I've not really sold any of mine before.

No. Well.. it is, but that doesn't mean anybody can use it.

Congratulations on the sale . Probably could've got more, but that's not too important.

Congratulations on the sale!

I've given them full rights to do with what they will, but they did specify the website and some internal documents so as far as I'm concerned that's what they're going to do with it. If they then stick it on canvases and make millions from it then obviously I won't be too chuffed but I'm realistic and they're not going to do that :)

........ the found it on flickr :D

and £50 is just 'supplies'

I'm not sure why they want it, it's certainly not my best image or even close to but then if they have a need for an image with gnomes and are going to shot me 50 quid then they're welcome to it! :)

Cheers for the comments guys.
