Yes
Just seen on the news that a branch of woolworths has been reopened by a former manager under the new name of "Wellworths"

So we will now have to pop into "wellies" for our picnmix

i think the efforts of the staff are fantastic, and should be commended.

i saw the store on the news earlier and i was impressed how tidy and well presented it was, every time ive been in woolies its always been a bit of a mess, this was well turned out and smartly decorated.

i wish it every success

Is this for real?

Because our wollies got taken over by The Factory Shop already :(

Definitely real. DJ Chris Evans opened it apparently.

FS didn't acquire all sites obviously, and this one was acquired privately by ex-staff.

There used to be both Woolworths and Wellworths over here in N.Ireland.Both looked identicial

good to see that people are making sure that such recognizable shops dont get shut down and forgotten

I think they'll be having problems using that name. IIRC, that is the name of a chain of stores in Norn Ireland.

The branch in question is in Dorchester, and I forgot all about it :bang: I actually ended up in Polle and Weymouth today instead

I asked if my dad would take me just for some pick and mix but he siad no :lol:

Cheshire to Dorset's a hell of a way for a bag of Pick 'n' Mix Matt!

I wish them all the best but something tells me it's just going to be another bargain store. Of which many are taking over previous Woolworths sites.

I'm just a little dubious on how well its going to do.

It will do just fine while the economy is making people think twice about what they spend. Cheap might equal false economy but for many it's the only economy. Quite how well it will fair in years to come when there is more money available and people feel they have a greater choice where to spend it... At that point they will have to be selling something you can't get elsewhere (or not at the price).

This is very true, maybe in the current climate they will do well. In the future though I suspect that won't be the case. Although competition from other bargain stores is always another threat.

I mean according to BBC News they will be stocking local produce, such as locally made wooden toys etc, whether this will work in their favour remains to be seen. It's more than likely to be seen as a local store for local people, judging on the support its had from the townspeople. I just reckon that their overheads may become too much in the future.
