No Bernie, "fruitcake" was used in it's widest meaning - you just do not know who you will meet who will have a reason to harm you - very sad :shrug:

I get what you mean Gramps, and yes, agree with the term. Looks very worrying if the actions that are apparently taking place are in reality. Certainly points to something other than a 'normal' murder.
 
I know the area well, my home is on Plumstead common, half a mile away. I am on the dlr to woolwich now.

The barracks aren't heavily populated with armed forces, it's just not the kind if area you would expect to see a religious attack. The area has poverty, gang crime and so on but it's pretty well integrated. There is none of the social / religious ghettoisation of nearby areas.

Annoyed at ITN in its desperation to show its "exclusive" of one of the suspects talking to camera, covered in blood with his machete and a body in background. All pre-watershed and I've got two upset kids.

I take it this was a recording of some sort maybe a mobile etc.

Terrible thing to show on prime time news. In front of kids too.

Video in question is a bit much for prime time tv. Interesting that they only killed one person and how relatively calm and unaggressive the man seems towards onlookers...

Unfortunately events like this are inevitably going to cause more anti (extremist) Muslim opinions.

Not saying this was religiously motivated, it's too early to tell. But it will cause problems anyway.

Maybe he only wanted to kill a soldier? After all according to it he did say We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you" so msn is reporting.

Nice of the terrorists to be so considerate... The past few major (in terms of UK media coverage) attacks by Muslim extremists have killed people regardless of occupation, age or gender.

Not particularly odd when you think about it. If as is being suggested this is Islamic related, then probably assumed they would be "martyred" by police when they arrived. Which would explain the reports they ran towards the armed unit when it turned up, waving machetes and a revolver about.
It's a reasonable assumption that if you act that way, the police are going to shoot you. Which is exactly what happened.
Of course the fact they are still alive, and assuming the live they will have failed in becoming martyrs.

As a Muslim, I absolutely deplore, detest and am horrified at this. Cruel as it sounds, I sincerely hope he was just a complete mental case, I shudder at the thought of one nutter damaging the delicate fabric of today's society. There can never be any justification for this. My heartfelt condolences to the victim and his family.

I sincerely hope the media does not incite any racial tension as a result of this :(

As with all of us I am shocked but sadly not surprised.

As regard to the ITV complaint.They didn't show us any of the attack. We were all warned that the report would be upsetting. At that point I would not let my kids watch. The report showing one of the attackers could help to bring people who know him forward which could help the police with their inquiries.

The fact they were heard to be chanting "Allahu akbar" might be a bit of a clue tho.

Opinion i can deal with but I'd rather not have what I class as BNP racist bigotry appearing on my screen.

The guy in the itv video has one of the best Londoner accents I've ever heard for starters..
