Its rapidly approaching my 5th wedding anniversary (25th August). I have got as far as finding out that the gift should be wooden this year but am now drawing a blank.

I would like something a bit different and quirky but am not sure what. My wife bought me a message in a bottle for our paper anniversary which I really liked as it was so different.

Any ideas / suggestions? My life is at stake if I don't have something that morning.

I really like these. Will have to see how long for postage.

Get a pair of apple trees

No garden unfortunately.

Toilet seat?

I think I'd get more use out if this than she would... And our current one is comfy.

Now this idea I like :D although you can remove the word if.

Plenty of ideas HERE or howabout one of the wood carvings or bits of furnture made with chainsaws or from tree bases/roots if you want to 'stump' up a bit more cash? :D

Lol, not bad. We got this far without the dodgy puns. Cash isn't too plentiful and our house is small / moderate sized. No space for extra furniture. That website looks interesting, I'll have a good look when she's not about.

Well a coffin would definitely get used, hopefully not for some time although it could be used as a wardrobe until then.

No garden or space for the crucifixion cross.

And as above with the website.

That is brilliant, and attempting to make something myself may make it a bit more special. Although she isn't one for sewing, I do all that.

A piece of wood.

Original, and I imagine many many uses.

a wooden spoon and chopping board and tell her to get in the kitchen

She cooks as well as she sews. Although if you can get wooden microwaves...

Thanks for all of the ideas, I will go through and look properly at the websites when I have time. I appreciate the help and will let you know what I get.

For our 5th anniversary last week I got my wife a pencil :D

Thanks Just Julie loved it I know its naive carving but its the thought and love put into making it, that counts

I bought her an expensive watch as well, which she still wears

Give her a stick. something else to beat you down with :D

Box of matches.

why don't you just fling back the duvet on the 25th and say 'hey babe... look, i got WOOD!!'... and just take it from there.. she'll love it

Yep, you owe me a new keyboard.:lol::lol:

Nice suggestions, I think I will find a big stick and see if I can carve a nice spoon myself. Then spend a bit more on a posh meal. Thanks for all the help.

Thanks everyone for the help.

The big day was last weekend and I managed to get a couple of nice lumps of wood the week before. I gave them to an Arborist to chop into pieces (I attempted with a saw but spent about 2 hours to only get half way through!!!)

As I left it a bit late and the trouble I was having cutting them I went with plan B which turned out like this...

I was quite happy with the result, I burnt the lettering in with a soldering iron. I need to try to tidy it up a little but didn't want to ruin it.

Also went out for a nice meal and to the imax (cinema is great, 2 hours without having to speak to each other).

I still have lots of wood left over and will attempt to make one of those Welsh love spoons as I like the idea of them and fancy a little project.

Wood turning lathe?

A lump of wood (either big branch or small trunk), I'm pretty sure it was cut into pieces with some kind of chainsaw and I sanded it by hand, then pencilled on the words and went over them with a soldering iron. Nothing else done, would like to varnish it but I like the current finish, will test on another piece before I commit to varnish this piece.

well you did a great job hope shes happy with it.

Thanks, she really liked it. Not sure whether she liked the 12oz steak we had later on more though :)

I was also really pleased with how it turned out, my usual writing is similar to a 3 year olds on red bull, took me about an hour or so just to burn on the text.
