:woot: I have bought my first D-SLR camera - I am now the proud owner of a Nikon D70 with a 18-70mm lens. Got original box, leads, software, a filter, bag, memory card and mini tripod too.

Can't wait to pick it up Saturday and try it out :D:D

Prepare to have all your spare time used up

And your bank account empty!

Brilliant !! Here begins a love affair. BTW, welcome to The Dark Side.

and to be cold and wet most of your life, or being asked to cover a friends/family wedding because your a 'pro'

*sigh*

welcome to the forum though :D wish you all the best, anything good to come out so far ?

If her username is accurate, she should be used to that!

That's very fair :D am very used to the cold and wet; really want to go and pick it up now lol, got to collect from Liverpool on Saturday so will be a nice little road trip with the other half.

Got nothing in my bank account to empty now after this :)

The filter is a good sign - probably means it's been looked after well.

It should be, the seller said he bought it for his son as a hobby and he hardly used it; the photos of the camera looked in good condition. Just got to learn how to use it now - any reccommended books?

Congrats on your first DSLR! nothing beats the feeling when you first get it in your hands :)

Looking forward to seeing your shots!

I think I know the one you mean (saw it yesterday during other thread discussion) and it looks pretty good.

As for books, manufacturer's handbooks aren't very well written - you might try a D70 manual/guide from 3rd party author, e.g. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-Expan...=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1284562483&sr=1-2

Plus - another book on exposure as Janice suggests.

I'll look them up on amazon later, thanks all, I'm sure I'll be bugging you with questions over the next few months lol so apologies now ;)

Cheers AFC, I have just ordered it from Amazon - looked inside it on the website and liked the way it was set out and explained things.

That 18-70 lens is one of the most under rated lenses in the Nikon range, do not sell it on!!! It is capable of pin sharp pictures and great colours rendition. It can be zoomed in for very 'close up' type results, and the pictures can be cropped in tight and large, pin sharp . . .

I know its described as a kit lens . . . but what a kit lens:thumbs:

Enjoy,
CJS

Enjoy Sarah.

Well, I went and got my camera from Liverpool today and I'm chuffed to bits with it. Got so much to learn which hit me as soon as I opened the manual about ISO's, shutter speeds, aperture etc (no idea what any of this means yet), but it'll be fun learning.

Hoping the weather is better tomorrow so I can practice in the garden on something other than my orchid and my cats :)

Congratulations on the D70  I still miss mine when I look through my old photos. Now to keep an eye out for those 2nd hand 50mm 1.8D's! :naughty:

Congrats... I had a D70 and it was a fabaroonie camera, great choice!
