I'm diabetic, normally it's under control but I've felt rough the last couple of days.
Blood sugar level abnormally high and increasing, sweating, light headed and generally unwell, classic symptons of high keytone level, which has put me on a drip a couple of times in the past.
So, after speaking to the emergency diabetic nurse I took myself off to Bradford Royal Infirmary A&E, expecting to be there for hours.
Within seconds of giving my details I was seen by the triage nurse.
Urine test, then I was seen by a nurse.
3 minutes later I was seen by a doctor, all possible tests taken.
Now it's waiting for the results of a lab test on my blood, I was told to go home, the doctor will ring me with the results and will let me know whether I need to go back in, to save me waiting around for the tests.

You just can't get better service than that:)
 
Took my Dad into A&E a couple of weeks ago, similar results to yours, absolutely brilliant. Hope you left a comment card, we did. Praise where its due. Glad you got sorted.

Here we have a small memorial hospital which "only" has a minor injuries unit, and it was there I found myself early doors yesterday morning where, after a raft of tests, I was diagnosed with bacterial bi-lobal pneumonia.

Re-hydrated and given IV antibiotics, I was then sent home with more meds and strict instructions to return should I worsten in any way.

Absolutely fabulous care.
 
As an insulin dependent diabetic with good control I have had a few occasions when I have had to go to A&E when my sugars and blood can get out of kilter.

In all but one occasion I have received brilliant and quick care.

The one time I was put in serious danger was in Boston Massachusetts. Got off the plane from Heathrow and stated to have a Hypo.

Airport staff were great and was in a ambulance double quicktime.

At the hospital first person to see me was more concerned about my insurance/credit card. By the time the doctor saw me I was in deep trouble.

My treatment was very good once admitted but the itemised bill covering my stay was incredibly detailed and very expensive. All covered thankfully. Was in 9 days and racked up over $40K!

We here non stop horror stories about our NHS but given the millions that pass through the system each year, we really do have a great health service.

As Garry knows the reputation of BRI is not very good and waiting times poor. So this is even a more surprising story.
 
I read the title, guessed it was sarcastic, and thought it we were in for a NHS bashing thread.

Nice to hear positive things about the NHS! The few times I've been in / around hospitals the care has always seemed spot on.

The only time I hear people talk about it (at work etc) is when they are complaining (incorrectly) about how it's similar to the standard of medical care you'd receive in a tinhut based in the middle of an African shanty town. If only they knew...

Had my by-pass at BRI in 2006

Food awful but highly skilled cardiology unit.

BTW BRI in this case is Bristol Royal Infirmary!

My blood tests were fine, my blood sugar is fine too and I didn't need to go back.

This was my third experience of Bradford A&E: The first was fine, the second really poor and this one excellent.
I suppose it depends on the level of demand at any given time, but regardless of that, the helpful and friendly staff left me with a very warm feeling

I have been diabetic for 24 years and always had great care through the NHS.

It remains to be seen whether it continues to be that way with the imposed cost and budget conditions being driven hard by the politicos.

I had a CT scan booked a few weeks ago. 1st 20 mins parking free. I took change but didn't need it.
Need to have surgery. GP couldnt find an appointment soon enough on his system so arranged to send me to a private specialist before I left.

I appreciate people have a bad time with the NHS. But I can't fault them
 
Just a thought, if you turned up at a local garage without a booking and asked therm to do service on your car right now and none of this having to wait a couple of hours lark, how do you reckon you'd get on? Along with 10 other people, most being rude as well to the mechanics. NHS do a great job at very little actual cost to the individual.
