Looking for a zoom lens for my old lady to screw onto a D600…………………..needs to be light/super light and with a focal length of somewhere around 20 to 100

I have the 28-80 as above. Got it following reading Ken Rockwell's report on it.

For what I paid (think it was around £35) it is a tremendous lens. It's tiny, quick to focus and sharp as anything. Build quality isn't brilliant. It's very plasticky and doesn't feel like it would survive a pummelling but that said at £35ish who cares....i'll buy another!

The only criticism I can level at it is that at the wide end, there's a boat load of distortion. Nothing that can't be fixed in PP but worth mentioning.

The 24-85 is a great all round lens. Esp with VR. But it's not what I'd call light, let alone super light.

Nikon 24-85 maybe? If you don't mind used, then the old 28-80 lens was featherlight. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/28-80mm-g.htm

Didn't you post a similar question a while back? What was the outcome of that?
We got a 18/300mm I think it was and put that on the D800e but that combination was too heavy so luckily enough the shop where I got the lens took it back and we got her a xPro1 but that camera is so sloooooooooooooooow that she wants to try a D600..........woman:cuckoo:

Have a look at the Nikon 24-120 f4 if you can find one - great lens and lighter than the 18-300 I think ... though maybe not by much.

For light solutions you're looking at s/h, the old 24-85 AF-S and 28-200G are worth a look. Nikon don't really make anything to compare nowadays in terms of size/weight, everything else is far bulkier and heavier.

A prime would be the obvious candidate for lightness, a 35mm F2 is tiny and weighs not much, ditto one of the 50mm's. As before though, the 28-80 is the obvious contender, got one with my D70 as a kit lens about 7 years ago and I've used it on my F100 film camera quite a bit, not a bad all round lens at all if you manage your expectations accordingly.

I have a 50 1.4 so she can use that, I looked at the 20mm as well (very Small) but I will have her try the 24/85 and also see if I can get hold of a 28/80

Can I ask - Why does a woman's lens have to be so light? Can't they just use the same lens as a man?

Its got to do with the weight:bonk:

I understand that, but I'm not sure that even the heaviest lens is to heavy for a woman to carry/use.

I suppose that if you want really light you could look at a nifty-fifty. Great quality and very, very light.

Some of the kit lenses are very light and sharp as anything. Maybe look at those?
