Thanks for the feedback guys - appreciate it! :)
I think the selective colouring thing works on this shot, but I fully admit it's been done to death on taxis in NYC! But if it works right?! ;) As mentioned, this week's shot will not be from NYC as I'm back home now (unfortunately!)

Electric: What a stunning image!

Direction: I really like this one too, like the selective colouring, think it helps make it.

Hi ya

Direction.....another corker...the sc works really really well & a great view point....another for the wall me thinks

Determined to catch up and not wanting to fall 2 weeks behind - here is week 13 - tacky.

I did want to try something else for this theme, but it turned into a sticky horrible mess and I couldn't get the shot I was after. So decided a different take on the theme - am reliably informed this is the tackiest thing I own...my original Mathmos Lavalamp!

Well I would say cool rather than tacky, because I have one just like it ;)

Really like how the green light has lit this, good job

Don't suppose you know where to get spare lava bottles do you?....

rather liking this too - can see how lava lamps could be seen as tacky - so fits the theme very well there.

as said - love the green spilling out from behind the lamp, is that a natural "vignette" effect caused by the fall off of light or have you added it? Either way works perfectly for me!

Pin sharp and fantastic colours. Well captured.

Thank you, glad you like! :)

Thank you - I agree, I think it's cool rather than tacky - but I'm assured otherwise! :|
Re the bottle - afraid not! I didn't know you could get them to be honest! I've had this one a long time!

Hi Matt
I love lava lamps....so not tacky for me...really well exposed & beautifully sharp

Hehe, glad you like! It's certainly looking as though the general consensus is that this isn't really on theme! ;)

Thanks! Yeah, it's a natural vignette - turned the lights off, quite a quick shutter speed so no movement in the 'blobs' and all the light coming from the lamp. Glad you approve!

I find lava lamps mesmerising :) very nice lighting!
Thank you!

I just need to upload my 'value' shot and then catch up with everyone elses threads, getting a bit behind with that too! :bonk:

14/52 - Value by whatmattdoes, on Flickr

Not really happy with this shot - but didn't want to risk trying too many more as I'm pretty sure in store security were watching me! I'm not even sure it's that good theme wise either now I've done it! Haha. Taken in my local Aldi - bargains / good 'value' galore! ;)

Matt, thats great. I had an idea a while back that involved a similar POV but you have taken it one step further, the movement really makes this a compelling image. Great stuff.

Close enough to theme for me, absolutely love all the lines drawing you into the shot, and the zoominess of the trolley down the aisles works a treat.

Great job on the composition too. Top work matt!

Thanks Brian - ideally I'd have liked more blur, but the floor was made of tiles which caused a little camera shake as the trolley went along - so had to dial it back a bit! Glad you like it! :)

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback! My composition this week was determined mostly by 'how can I put this camera in the trolley where it won't get noticed and get me thrown out by security' - haha!

Really like the colours in this one and the novel viewpoint makes it stand out from the ordinary.

Good effort :clap::clap:

Thanks Alan, glad you approve!

Righto - time to catch up with everyone else's threads!

Hi Matt,

Loving this, greatview point and well focused. Good take on theme too.

H, Tacky, strange but I rather like these. Anyway, really like the green glow in this one. Nice detail. Small point but I'd like to see some of the blob near the top.

Value, like it. Great perspective and motion blur.

Cheers.

I like the selective colour thing (though I usually don't), and the angle. The messy rooftop clutter to the right does slightly spoil it for me, although there's not much you can do about that (and most downward shots in NYC have the same problem)

Tacky and value, fantastic job on both. I bet security had a right laugh at you whizzing around with a camera in your trolley, too!

I think Value is a great shot. Some lovely leading lines and motion blur. Very inventive thinking!

Ian.

Thanks Allie! Glad you like - quite a bit of this shot was pot luck really as I couldn't check viewfinder for focus etc - turned out ok thankfully! :)

Thanks! I agree about the blob now you mention it! :bonk:

I assume you're talking about week 12! :) Glad you like it!

Haha! I don't know if they were laughing to be honest, probably eyeing up my camera as something they could confiscate and stick on ebay later! Glad you approve!

Thanks Ian - as mentioned, I'd have like a bit more blur really, but the floor and slightly dodgy trolley were causing too much shake! Glad you like it!

Hi ya
Value...cracking shot ..... no crit from me...love everything about it :clap:

Thanks! :D Really appreciate the feedback!

As per usual, I'm a little late - but here's week 15! I found this a little tricky to be honest having done a similar theme a few weeks back. I also had another idea, but couldn't find what I needed so had to come up with something new...

Week 15: Greed

15/52 - Greed. by whatmattdoes, on Flickr

Bit of a push (maybe?!) for the theme, but my logic is I spent £45 on Nespresso coffee pods this week and really can't get enough of them* AND coffee in general really!

On to this weeks theme...which should be up before Saturday!

Don;t think anyone except Brian really enjoyed greed as a theme.

This one not really grabbing me.... The angle is giving me trouble, pull it back so that it's level with the black bottom of the machine might help, focus point should really be on the drip for me, (great timing though!!). And the circle of colour in the BG is fighting for my attention - to try and see what it is - as well as the blown top of it too.

Should have some fun with angles though - I did!!

Time...Simple shot and a great looking subject, just needs a little straighten for me though.

Letter....This one has come out really good, nice angle and focus point and the coluor effect even though photo shopped is great.

Electric...Right on theme, nice colour in the sky and a lot of electricity being used.

Direction...I like the high pov for this but not sure about the selective colouring as you have highlighted the yellow Taxis you could almost use this for tacky as in Cliché processing :D

Tacky....That's a really nice shot, you have got the exposure and vignetting just right. But tacky :nono:

Value....I'd be happy with this, pov spot on and just enough blur to show movement.

Greed....Not obvious for the theme but great angle and background just maybe too many empty pods although I know you are showing greed.

Not really sure about this on just looked at it on flicker and the focus is a bit off or at least it seems like that to me

I want a coffee now. The colours are what makes this picture for me. Good use of aperture.

Matt, your Angle shot is GREAT. A clever idea and perfectly executed. spot on mate

Greed: I like the angle but find my eye drawn straight to the colours on the right.

Angle: Nice b&w. Lovely sharp image.

Nice one Matt - clean, clear, simple, well composed. spot on.

Tacky, whatcha mean tacky? That's a lava lamp, that's not tacky! Etc. All that said, that's a great shot Matt, well times and lovely colours.

Value: likewise only loosely on theme, but intersting and as said above the movement blur definitely adds interest.

Greed: interesting angle on the shot, but to me it fell apart when I realised the coffee drip was going sideways! Nice colours though.

Angle: definitely like this one. Cool look, and the zigzag spoon adds real interest. Nice angles in the glass too.

Hi
I like the quirky angle and the colours in your greed shot.
Interesting shot for angle. Like the simplicity.

Quick catch up, I'm afraid :D

Greedy, quite like it, nice colours and quirky angle. BG is a tad distracting.

Angle, I had the same idea and you've done well.

Cheers.

Great idea for angles, the processing shows of the subject perfectly.
