Just wondering if anyone has used them to make a site? Basicly its a wysiwyg web page creation software and web hosting package thats free to use.... but with some paid for parts.
I have a technophobe mate that has asked about it as he wants a site for the shop his wife has.

If your mate and his wife are both technophobes, than I'd suggest using a web designer/developer to produce a site.

the paid for parts include using your own domain name, and that is a big one. So you will end up paying a decent sum.

If it's photography site why not look at Zenfolio or SmugMug to get you started?

Not me its a shop my mates wife runs.
Judt wondering what the service is right

I had one. They are lovely looking, easy to make websites particularly suited to someone who wants to remain anonymous and never be ranked by google. Also, they quickly become a pain to update/edit when you have a lot of content like photos.

For reasons above I would strongly recommend looking into an html site (wix is flash or html5). If it's for a shop then you want to be found and also be able to add more e-commerce functionalities and most importantly be able to make updates yourself - not be reliable on the webdesigner to do it for you. I would look into wordpress, if they're technophobes then you can get someone design it for them and teach them how to use the content management system.

This.
Wix are awesome if you want a small site to point people at. For most things you want in a commercial website, they're completely useless.
