Just got a new phone with android on it and put google goggles on there.

I assume everyone here has tried it as I am a very late-comer to the mobile phone world.

But Google goggles is amazing, just been scanning everything in the house and its accurate so thought I would try something harder.

I scanned my laptop that only has Fujitsu Siemens wrote on it and the camera on my new phone is not many mega pixels (3 or something) and the room is darkish so would be hard for camera to see the make but Google goggles managed to not only find the laptop but also the model. Something I have to look underneath to find

That's amazing... its witchcraft

its statistical based computer vision - and freakin clever, they're taking ideas from their search algorithms and applying then to machine translation, computer vision and other cool stuff.

The idea is you don't need to know what something is to identify it if you know what it and a gazillion other things look like, you just compare them, and its fast because the phone doesn't do the thinking the server farm does :D

Thanks, amazing stuff

I mean I can half understand it recognising something like a Heinz sauce bottle (but still clever) but to recognise a laptop and its model number from a fuzzy photo ... that's just scary    :suspect:

Wow - wish I had known about this ages ago! Waiting for it to download so I can try it. :-)
