Wirless flash

Hi I have a cannon 500d and I'm trying to get it to work with flash softbox I just bought my friend is a pro photographer and I used my camera on his if I remember correctly nothing was attached it does it have built in trigger any advice welcome I'm just learning at moment thanks

Best option would be using the flash on manual settings and using a radio trigger set, such as the Yongnuo RF603 or similar.

quite likely, as softboxes tend to hide the IR signal for those using eTTL or iTTL. Radio triggers are the only way to fly

for a cheapish entry option have a look at the seculine twinlink stuff, it works really well and uses both ir and radio so you have both options
