Wiring up a second TV to a FreeSat box help needed..

Can anyone help me with this please..?

We have a satellite dish for FreeSat via a Humax HDR1000s box - there are 2 cables in to it from the dish.
I want to get a second TV so what do I need to do - I assume I need to get some sort of splitter box then run two more cables to the new tv. Does this mean a second Humax ?
Is it OK to run a second pair of cables from the dish or will that weaken the signal ?

Any help very much appreciated as I am in the process of ripping up the floor and replacing so will need to run in the cables in the next day or two....
 
I assume that you can record one channel watch another. You may need another lmb which has four connection do two go off to another box
 
Thanks for the quick reply wave01 - we can indeed watch one and record a second channel.

What is an lmb - is that what I think of as a splitter box, like a junction box ?
 
If I am getting a new lmb might it be worth replacing the entire dish - it must be 10 years old and is a bit rusty. Have they changed over the years?

yes sorry wasnt clear on that.

also you can split the signal if you have a communal system but thats another thing entirely :)
 
Thanks everyone - why is every job more expensive than it might look to start with...?

I'll get a local guy to come and take a look to make sure I do the right thing as far as cables are concerned and take his advice about the dish, as it is pretty rusty.
A second FreeSat recorder will be on the list, along with that big new TV I have been trying to tell my wife is Essential
 
Or if you do not want to watch on and record one you could divert on of the sat cables to the new tv location and get a TV with freesat receiver built in. This will limit the functionality of your human box though to only be able to watch or record the same program
 
jondc - I think that would limit us too much so am going to bite the bullet and get the local expert in as it will limit problems later, and once the new floor is down..!
 
We've only got one Sky box but have the signal from that sent to 3 different rooms. Each room sees the same channel on the Sky channel but since most TVs these days come with Freeview built in, someone in the other rooms can always watch one of the myriad of channels available on Freeview.
 
You can get LNBs with 1,2,4, and 8 outputs. If you want two boxes each with two inputs then you need at least a quad LNB (not quattro, those have four outputs but are intended for use with multiswitches, which are the basis of communal systems Neil was referring to) and to run two new cables to the location of your second TV and box.

The box sends a signal to the LNB to tell it how to tune in, it is not a passive device like an TV aerial, which is why splitting satellite cable doesn't work like splitting aerial cable..
 
Hi Steve, I have just downgraded from a quad lnb were I had a second human freesat running in to one of my childrens bedroom, if you're looking for another box at a good price you can have it. It's the HD version, I did the work myself and to be honest it's easy to do if your only upgrading the lnb it comes out easy enough and the same putting it back in with new cable
 
what is the purpose for the 2 inputs? I would have thought that the dvd would have had a splitter internally to provide feed to each of its tuners.
