Does anyone else have problems with their wireless connection on a Vista laptop?

Sometimes it works fine for a week or so... the suddenly one day it can see the network but says it cannot connect.

Ive tried everythng i can think of but wondered if it was a bug or something.

Thats what I'm on and I have never had a problem with it. I have a BT hub if thats any help.

Two laptops running wireless vista here and no problems. Have you tried unplugging your router for 10 minutes then plugging it back in again. Sometimes they just need a reset.

i will try... .the other pcs in the house that are on xp have no problems

both laptop and tower run vista had a few probs with not connecting rang bt got new router no probs now:thumbs:

the router is an orange livebox which is working fine with the other 2 xp computers.

the vista one sees it always but when i click on Connect.. it says it cannot connect

It did until last week. probably a bloody vista update that did it. trouble is i cant use system restore because for some reason the updates dont go back further than yesterday.

my laptop is a hewlett packard with built in wireless, i sometimes have this problem, but if i use an external usb router (which i had from the old laptop) i dont have any trouble at all, weird!

Two laptops here running vista via the BT home hub 99% signal no connection problems.

I get the same issue with my laptop but only on 1 specific router at home which is connected to my ntl modem.

Strangely I have the same netgear router but the adsl version and it worked flawlessly for 6 months before I moved.

Only thing to do is to reboot the router and modem.

Two Laptops on Vista here too, and never have any problems.

Do you have extra Anti Virus or Firewalls?

Orange could be your problem, mine is working fine at the moment but we have had trouble in the past. My in-laws also have orange and get connection problems at times and they run xp. My mate also on xp with orange can't connect with the router which is in the next room but gets a signal from a neighbour down the road.
Are you sure there are no other system restore points on your laptop. There should be a link to search for previous restore points on the system restore page. It's not well highlighted and easy to miss.

well... i just started the laptop up today and it automatically connected first time.

Yesterday I tried all day long... starting and restarting the laptop and router.

how weird............but I wont question it... I will just use it! :D

This happend to me a while ago, i am running both my desktop and laptop with vista 32bit and sometimes the desktop (where the ADSL/Wireless router is airing from) can't see the network but my laptop can.

I put it down to a update.

To get the XP machine to show up on the vista network map you will need to download and run the

Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder from microsoft onto the xp machine.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...1D-EE46-481E-BA11-37F485FA34EA&displaylang=en

Then reboot the vista map should then work.

Please check however that both systems are on the same workgroup and drives are shared.

Finally you may also need to do the following:

Ensure the vista machine has a user id and password at logon.

e.g User name abcd
p/w 123456

Then create the same user id and paswword to logon to the xp machine.

This should allow the network to work efficiently between xp and Vista.

Additionally Vista SP1 is due for release tomorrow via windows update and Microsoft downloads (will be an automatic update on 18 April).

This includes an aimproved network diagnostic tool which may also help.

With regard to the network printer (presumably installed via xp) download and unpack vista drivers to your vista hard drive and then either run the manufacturer seup or go via add printer and when telling it it is a network printer then point it at the unpacked drivers and all should be ok.

Just a thought when you say "network printer" do you mean a printer running through RJ-45 cable or one connected to a pc(usb) and shared on the network?

Thanks for your help all, I had already done all of those things you mentioned above.

By network printer I mean one connected to my xp machine. i can see the xp machine on the vista one... but cant share any files or the printer any more, although I could a few weeks ago.

hee hee... wait till we move house next week... that'll be fun :D

If you have done all that you need to check IP permissions in your firewalls both software and hardware.

I know this problem well. But I didn't until last Wednesday when Marianne's son came to stay with us. He had exactly the same problem.

Turning Bluetooth off of the laptop temporarily fixed it as it re-appeared. So, the problem then manifested itself when Microsoft Wireless Manager decided to turn Bluetooth back on again! Why doesn't Bill Gates do as he's told?

Anyway, the finally solution was to dispense with Microsoft Wireless Manager altogether. Was not a problem after that.

Have bluetooth running on several networks with MWM and never had a problem.
