Wireless triggers for 430ex2 and 50d

Happy New Year guys. Since i've had my Orbis Flash ring, I've broken the wire already. Now I do want to start using manual flash and have been looking at some wireless triggers. Anything that somebody actually uses that they would recommend?
 
i use the calumet triggers and receiver. Well priced reliable and 4 channels
 
There's always the eBay standard Yongnuo RF-602s or RF-603s (603 are transcievers, rather than seperate models for transmiter and reciever).

I've got several 602s, love them. They can wake the flash up (my old ones didn't do this), but don't manage ETTL, not an issue if you're planning on using manual flash anyway. I also use them to trigger my studio flashes.

They aren't too expensive, and are reliable. I've not had one misfire yet with them :)
 
Another vote for 602's. Very reliable, long distance and they can double as a remote shutter trigger with the right cable which makes them very versatile
 
The 602's are very well priced. My concern is that 99% of my work is in nightclubs that ere normally rammed, so I might lose em? Unless they do have a fastener.

Can you explain in abit more detail the differance between the Yongnuo RF-602s & RF-603s please
 
As already said really, the 602's have seperate triggers and receivers (so you could have, say 1 trigger and 4 receivers)
The 603's do both and apparently automatically sense if it needs to transmit or receive.

Both can also trigger the camera shutter with the req'd lead. HTH's

They don't come with a fastener which could be a pain. I've never used mine when I've been working in clubs, my transmitter would probably fall off :lol:

As Silver Pixels has said, with the RF-602s you have a transmitter unit, and reciever units. They are different designs and requires at least 1 of each to work. Multiple recievers can be used with 1 transmitter (I often use 3 for studio flashes).

The RF-603 combines both the transmitter and receiver circuitry into 1 device. So as long as you have 2 or more 1 can be used as the transmitter and all others as receivers.

Beneifts are, if you for example, have 3, and 1 fails, you aren't potentially left without a transmitter or receiver, as you are with the 602s.

602s and 603s aren't interchangable, and as far as I know (happy to be corrected), won't work together.

A lot of people like and use the 602s, they are slightly older but very much a proven design :)
 
I just bought the St-E2 cause I went to Calumet and tried their triggers. They do work very well but does not fire the infrared beam on the flash. I work in nightclubs so foocusing would've been a big issue as I was even struggling in a darkish Room. St-e2 works a treat!

Thanks for clearing that up. Makes more sense to me know. Would it be better to go for the 603's?
 
Was thinking about buying the ST-E2 myself! had a go with one on my 40D using a 430ex flash and worked very nicely without any extra fiddly bits and reciever's hanging off the bottom of your flashgun.
The only annoying thing was when i wanted a drink in a night club you now have two things too handle and take care of in your hands! , unless your pockets are big enough
 
Just to check, If I got a two pack of the rf-603, I stick on on my camera and one on my flash head, other flash heads can then work from picking up the first one firing?

Would you ever need to add other units to the other flashes?

St-e2 is great but watch it's limited range. I have one for when I'm working close, brilliant as it sends the ettl info through.

602's falling off - masking tape if you're really worried but I've used then on lightstands etc without issues.
