Recently bought a cheap remote trigger off eBay. It's crap. :-)

I've been using it to trigger the camera which in turn triggers the strobe via a wireless trigger.

If I use the camera button, or the button on the trigger extension that plugs into the camera all works fine with a shutter speed from 1/100 - 1/200. However if I use the wireless remote to trigger exposure I get shutter problems with either a black bar or completely black exposures on some shots. It varies wildly. Sometimes several shots are fine then some are not

Does anyone have a recommendation for a wireless shutter remote and receiver that is reliable and cheap ish?

With thanks for any advice offered

I use an iShoot set I got from Amazon for about £20. Can't fault them, work for my flashgun and studio heads.

I can't recommend these highly enough. High speed synch, second curtain synch... they've got the lot and for the price of them they are a great deal!

Superb triggers, but can't fire shutters.

No ttl trigger can, as far as I know.

Probably the best simple radio shutter triggers are the 602s:

Make sure you get the right shutter cord for your brand and type of camera though.

The Pocketwizard Flex's can. They're the only TTL triggers that don't miss a single feature - that's how they get away with them costing so much.

How do they manage the half press to focus? I cant see a two position trigger button on either the flex or mini? It's been a while since I used a PW TTL unit though.

Just a thought and may be wrong, if you are using the trigger to fire the camera and the lights, i.e, reviver to trigger camera plugged in then a trigger on the hot shoe to trigger the lights, are the trigger for the camera and the trigger for the lights using a different frequency, if not may be that the lights are triggering to soon for the shutter.

I've no idea, I've never used it as a camera remote, but all I can think is, if I needed a remote that worked from 100 metres, what use would focussing be? Surely I'd want to have pre-focussed, because at the point of capture I can't see through the viewfinder. Anyway, the manual's not handy, but there's a socket on them and I've looked up the cable to have a play in the past (not had a go yet).

I'm left remembering the last time I used my simple wired remote and I had to switch the camera to MF to get the shot (before snatching it out of the camera and dumping it in the bag). I NEVER want my focus action on my shutter button - it's the single most infuriating function of any camera ever:baby:.

Sorry for the rant Kris - it wasnt your question, it's that f*(£ing remote.

It does have the half press focus. It's on the cable. There are two types of cables for connecting them. One comes with motor and the other one is just simple trigger.
