Ok, I've have just bought a laptop to keep the kids of my P.C

I would like to use a wireless connection, but I'm not sure which would be the best/easiest router to use?

the laptop would mainly be for internet/MSN, any downloading would be done on the P.C.

So any suggestions are greatfully received.

Mine's a linksys.
Worked straight out the box, been running with it for 2 years now.
Never had an issue with it:thumbs:

I've been using a Netgear router for what seems an age, idiot proof set up and constant reliability.

Surfing on the back lawn with a cool beer on a hot day is an excellent way to relax.

Whatever make or model you choose don't forget to set up security for wireless access. Locking the router down to the MAC address of your PC's is always a good idea, along with WEP or WPA, otherwise you might find your neibhour, or someone else "borrowing" your internet connection, or bank account details.

Linksys here.

They all work in a similar way. mine is connected to a cable modem from Virgin. ADSL or cable you need something that has an Ethernet port for the router to connect to.

Out of the box they have no security so you can connect and set it up via a web browser. Once you enable security you cut yourself off and have to connect again with the passcode you just set.

All pretty easy with more advice here if you need it :)

Mine came from Solwise, no problems with it either, get's independant firmware updates too.

hmm, for cheapness, and if you fancy a play, get a linksys wrt54g (I forget which version is best) and flash the firmware to the DD-wrt firmware. Turns a cheap router into a really expensive one by unlocking a hell of a lot of functionality.

If fiddling is not for you, get anything draytek. Sodding awsome routers tbh. More expensive however, but imo, well worth the cash.

i recon best ones are Netgear for speed and stability....

Yeah thats a good call. I too have a linksys here and its been great. Seems a lot of people here are using them as well which is good to know, they must be doing something right!! :)
