Quick question for the knowledgeable F&C section, are there any film cameras that have a wireless remote control option? Preferably of the Nikon variety but other makes/film formats will be considered.

The F100 is listed in this pdf (Nikon USA), wireless and wired remote releases. It's the only film camera I can see, though I'm only skimming the document.

Wireless technology what form of devilry is this? Burn him, burn him I say.....

I think you need two parts to make it work - transmitter and receiver. Otherwise it's wired controllers of various sorts. Could be wrong, but I think that's the case.

Don't even think you can get wireless remote for the F6 (without a two-piece setup).

Nikon F5 for one. I got a transmitter/receiver set for mine from 7dayshop for under £10. Receiver sits in hot shoe & plugs in to 10 pin or whatever it is socket on the back. Light press of transmitter button trips focusing. firm press trips shutter. Works a treat. Works with any Nikon with same terminal. 7dayshop site listed them all.

Nikon did a wireless setup for the F3. Over £100 if you can find it.

Think the F65 one is IR rather than radio.

I've got a wireless remote for my D200 that works on my F100.
I would imagine any Nikon film camera with the 10 pin shutter release cable socket would be compatible, as mentioned above.

Just checked 7dayshop. Works with F90, F100, F5 & F6. Yours for the princely sum of £3.99 + shipping.

That's perfect, thanks.

Yeah, I've got loads of cable releases but I need to go wireless for the stuff I have in mind.

Your arm not long enough to take selfies without a fisheye lens? :P

:coat:

Even a fisheye wouldn't get that big old tummy in.:D

Alright, maybe that one would..... Probably not mine though....

F65 can be remotely released with the ML-L3 IR release.

Many years ago, a friend made a radio controller to operate a "standard" cable release using a 2ch system and a single servo. Mechanically simple and very effective, although rather bulky!

The F75 also works with the ML-L3 and works with the AF-S VR lenses too. I picked mine up for £10 from a charity shop complete with 28-100mm AF-G. This remote on ebay is £2.09 with free postage. It lists the F55, F65, and F75 as well as several digital cameras. Other remotes are available. :snaphappy:

I like the idea but probably not quite what I'm after although a Heath Robinson approach does appeal

That's useful to know thanks Steve

I finally got round to ordering one of the ML-L3 clones from ebay, it'll be here on Monday. I'll let you know how it works with my F75. It was only £1.75.

A bit late but I did test the ML-L3 on the F75. It works great, you can have it so that it takes the photo as soon as you push the button or on a delay of 10 seconds. I used it to take my current profile picture.

I think most Canon EOS film bodies can be triggered wirelessly. The trigger set can be found on ebay for £10. I'll also be having a go at putting together a wireless trigger for a cable release, wish me luck!!

I think (but check!) that the F4 accepts the 10 pin connector that higher end Nikons still use for remote connections. A call to Grays should answer the question as far as Nikons go.
