I've got my eye on a new Dell laser (2150CN) printer but was wondering if it would be possible to set it up as a wireless printer?

Dell supply a plug-in wireless adapter but it's £150 in the UK :cuckoo:

I've seen some wireless print servers on Amazon etc but the reviews seem lukewarm for most of them.

All I want to achieve is for the family to be able to access the printer easily from Windows laptops and (nice to have) Android devices. There can be a desktop connected to the printer either via USB or ethernet if necessary but we seem to have had limited success with things like Google Chrome print.

If the printer was connected to my wireless router by ethernet (via homeplugs) would that achieve anything?

If you setup a network then you should be able to setup the printer for sharing in that way without too many problems.

Would it not be cheaper to bit a wireless printer rather than one you have to add bits on?

I chose epson for simplicity in printing from the pc, laptop or mobile if need be :)

Yup, I bought a Samsung SCX-4500W MFD. Works very well for a B&W laser and colour scanner. Prints from PC, Mac and iPad.

Is that route still feasible if there are different operating systems (Win 7, XP & Vista)?

It's just that there's a good deal on this printer which means I can get it for about £40+VAT

My network includes my Win 7 laptop, 2 x XP desktops the iPad and an iPhone, other than the iPhone I've had them all printing to either of my two printers.

That's pretty much what I paid for my epson from staples

Just to cover Vista, I have printer shared via Vista desktop and can print from XP laptop.

Thanks all. I'll give the printer sharing a bash.

Is it a colour laser - if so I'll have a look. The Dell I've mentioned is £300 on their website but through independents is about £160 and then there's a promotion on giving £100 cashback.
