Wireless (now not Bluetooth) Mouse Recommendations?

I'm after a new mouse for my Windows laptop and want to go wireless. Whilst it's not a major issue I thought that if I buy a bluetooth mouse it leaves one of my USB ports free. This is for general use rather than photo editing.

Does anyone have any recommendations on which ones to consider and which ones to stay clear of please. Thanks.

Edit - Now looking for non-bluetooth

We had a logitec one for our laptop - quite expensive for a mouse, but fit nicely in the hand, fully functioning and not overly big to store in its little case in the laptop bag.

I had a look at some others, but they were bulkier and more of a desktop PC mouse if that makes sense.
 
I use a Microsoft brand Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 with my netbook. I often forget to turn it off and the 2 AAA batteries still last for months. Small but not too small and no problems with it. I'd probably buy another if I lost or broke it.
 
Thanks guys for the recommendations. I'm now at home and embarrassed to say I've had to change the thread title as when I've checked I don't have bluetooth :bonk:

The M/S 5000 was mentioned at work as well so I might look at the non-bluetooth version (4000?) as I like the idea of a fourth button to use the back function while browsing.
 
Buy a bluetooth card and fit it

The usb part is tiny so does not get in the way and the battery in the mouse last ages

Sounds very similar to one of the Logitech we've got - I would say the USB sticks out about 5-6 mm when inserted into the USB socket and also stores in the base of the mouse when not I'm use.
 
Most mice, whether 2.0ghz or Bluetooth will come with a USB receiver :)


Logitech or ms you'll generally always get something that will last, might be worth a trip to the shops to test ergonomic ness.
 
The bluetooth receivers are tiny..

So you leave it plugged in and not worry about anything snagging on it.

Same here, the Logitech wireless receiver is tiny

Thanks for all the posts guys. Looks like it's between the Logitech and Microsoft. I agree with Neil about the ergonomic test. Off to the shops tomorrow (hopefully).
 
The microsoft one I have didn't come with a receiver.

My wifes laptop doesn't have bluetooth. She has one of these from Play. Does the job and the battery lasts about a month or so with quite a bit of use and never turned off.
 
i got one of the microsoft ms 4000 wireless mouse and there not bad they are men't to work on any surface which was one of the reasons i got it
the thing i didn't like about it was the position of the 4th button i use my mouse left handed and i just couldn't get along with it
the wife now uses it and thinks it's fine

i ended up with a HP comfort mouse which is slightly bigger in size but the 4th button is positioned further back which works better for me
the only gripe i have with the HP mouse is the wireless range isn't great but it's it's still a good mouse

i have always used logitech until recently but the model i had been using for the last ten years or so was well and truly discontinued finding another to replace it that i liked using was surprisingly difficult

Well I got to Staples tonight to have a look and try out the mice there. In the end my choice was between the Logitech M510 and the Microsoft 4000. From a functional point of view the main difference is that Logitech has a fifth button. However I opted for the Microsoft mouse as it was a bit smaller in the hand and also a tad quieter especially the scroll wheel.

I know this will potentially cause controversy with me trying it out in a shop but I came home and ordered it online. I can understand an item being a bit more expensive in a retail outlet but Staples were selling this one at £40 and Amazon had it at £17.51 with free delivery. Can't see how they can justify over twice the price!

As a follow up to the above I received the Microsoft 4000 mouse yesterday. Nice and easy to set up, the nano usb thingy doesn't stick out far at all, the mouse is a nice size a fairly quiet and most of all I'm loving the back button - especially good for TP forum browsing :thumbs:
