I am looking to get a set of wireless headphones and have been looking at either the Sennheiser RS 170 or the newer RS 175, having always had corded headphones this will be a new departure for me from the norm.

The Sennheiser's have a higher price tag than some available but reviews are good. On paper it looks like there are a couple of minor differences between the two but the price difference is up to £100 between the two. They will be used for film & music and preference is for closed back which both are.

The 170's are rumoured a tad uncomfortable at times but this appears to be dealt with by purchasing a pair of RS 180 velour ear cups.

Any guidance, experience or suggestion for an alternative would be welcomed as usual.

I really wanted an rf set for the range and to use with my main panel when everyone else is in bed but thanks anyway.

Thanks Stuart but I really need rf headphones as it's for late night tv viewing and music. I tend to use the Sony h/phones with my phone/tablet though they look worth considering to get shot of the wires for tablet/phone use.

I have a pair of RS170's the digital wireless system works really well the they feel very fragile and tend to fall off. I also have a pair of RS130's they fit perfectly and are solid as a rock but the analogue wireless is prone to breaking up.

Thanks Gareth, I had read that some people experienced a low level hiss/hum with the 170's and that this was due mainly to an issue with the right phone which has been corrected with the 175's.

I would go and ask over at head-fi.

I've never got on with wireless, the cutting out and hissing drives me to insanity. I much prefer a standard pair and a long cord.

I've not tried either of these however.

I've been there Robert and it now looks like it's a choice between the 170's and 175's and whether or not the 175's are worth the extra £100 for optical connection.

I managed to get the RS 75's in the end from Italy for £168 delivered (in two days) including the Sennheiser 2 year warranty.

The headphones sound awesome and are on par with my wired AKG's. Coverage is good as I can get beyond the bottom of my garden and almost the whole way across the adjoining large field before I experience any drop out or "Oi get orfa moy crarps" :-)
