wireless dongle for new tv

Folks, i purchased a new Samsung tv today and not knowing much about them i want to use a wireless dongle to connect to my home pc.I was offered a Samsung dongle for £40 at the shop but wondered if any wireless dongle would suit as most can be cheaper than the £40 samsung one.

I'd imagine there is a strict compatibility list as it's a tv rather than a computer

Yeah Neil thats what i was worried about. Looking around it seems there are tv wireless dongles for this reason. Just dont know if a Samsung dongle does anything different from the other tv dongles around.

I hard wired mine after trying the dongle, that was one of the biggest wastes of time ever.
IMHO internet on TV's is poor even on a good day and Samsung was so slow :bang:

My main thing is join the home network to allow me to stream films etc from my home pc to the tv but no doubt my daughter will want facebook etc.

Do you have a wireless router ?

Hard wire the TV to the router and access it from there, that's how I have mine set up

Might just do that as my router is very close to my tv.

My Samsung is linked via Netgear Powerline adapters

Worked first time and as my router is 2 rooms away from the TV room it saved running a long cat5e cable.

I got mine on promotion for £24.99 and with a cheap switch by the TV, the TV, Blu Ray, XBox360 and WD TV LIVE are all linked to the network as is my NAS drive.

Another expandable option.

I hardwired my Sony TV to the router too. My TV will only accept the genuine dongle and I'm pretty sure yours will be the same, way too expensive.
