Screen wash formula?

At this time of year a lot of what gets chucked up from the road includes oil and other noxious nasties. Using a detergent based screen wash, should cut through that and keep the screen clear. Can't blame the wipers.

Citrus based degreasing wipes work a peach for me. Wipe the window and give the wiper blades right at the point a good wipe too.

Yep been using various expensive/cheap sreenwash formulas .

Mmmmmm, might give these a whirl .

Peaches aren't a citrus fruit...

Yes - you need to periodically clean the actual wiper blade... that helps a lot... Nice piece of clean kitchen towel and screenwash or something similar - drag it along the blade, and your pretty white towel will turn pretty black instead...

Don't seem to get this on mine, must be using the right screen wash.

I remember in the past getting this and used vinegar to clean blades and screen. Acts as a degreaser. If you use malt vinegar, you get the added aroma:banana:

My windscreen has recenly been splashed with something. I suspect it was when it was in for an MOT. Only shows up when the screen is wet and wipers on!

AL

Yeah I had that too. Mine was in for a Power Steering and Water Pump change, and an oil change.
Rained the next day, smear city!

Used the above trick with a citrus wipe, clear screen again :)

I put a small amount of methylated spirits in with the screenwash.
Also use it to clean the blades with if particularly crappy.

A thumbs up for vinegar for cleaning the blades, screenwash for the water.

I clean my screen and wipers with damp Newspaper and it keeps everything nice and clean. No cost :)

Sign of the "Times" Eh? :D

"Baby wipes" for the blades or the give away things with the fried chicken.
I also put a few drops of vinegar in the screen wash too.

Nah Vinegar rots the rubber, plus it stinks :p

Great responses ,just to add the wipers are the floppy variety ;) (refrain please from any smutty replies this is a serious matter :runaway:)

I've been doing it for years, never had one rot away yet, plus literally a few drops not a couple of litres :p

That was just asking for trouble wasn't it? :D

You are not supposed to keep the same wiper blades for years, you are meant to change them pretty regular ;)

Well as they don't rot ........................... :p

Can we keep this thread on track peeps ... as mentioned .... this is a serious matter :bat::ty:

To me anyways ..... :p

A good quality glass cleaner - i've found AutoGlyn or Mer to be very good if I've got some real crap on the windscreen...

Another recommendation for baby wipes and vinegar. Unscented wipes otherwise you won't get the fragrance of the vinegar.

Rain x is pretty good ,available in Asda, but as has been said vinegar is good ,also meths is a super degreaser

I use these foreign lads down the road. They clean my windscreen for £7.50. Then they clean the rest of the car for free.

You've been ripped off, ours do it for a £5 and you get a free fragrance thingy for in the car.

Wiping the blades with vinegar has worked for me for twenty (cough cough) years. :-)

Barkeepers friend is also meant to be good for cleaning windscreens. But seems vinegar is getting the most votes, gotta be worth a shot.

Tried vinegar and it's still the same , might try rain x

See my post :D Then apply the rain x after. Rain X is meant to go on an already clean windscreen. It then provides a hydrophobic layer so water whistles straight off your screen (In theory)

I just put Tesco concentrated screen wash in the washer bottle, if the wipers smear first time, another squirt and it's clear on the second wipe. Wiper blades get wiped about 3 times a year. Don't have to replace blades often neither.

Park It up till the summer

I give the screen a squirt of a Holts screen degreaser when I see smears then give the screen (all the windows while I'm playing the game!) a going over with a window cleaner's cloth thingy and a squeegy. A quick wipe of the blades with some kitchen towel wetted with the run-off and smear free windows until it needs doing again. The washer bottle is always filled with appropriately diluted screenwash solution.
