windoze 7 loss of user account

So I get home from work........

switch on the pc and think will check out TP......

Make a cuppa whilst it's warming up, and apprently my profile/user account has disappeared, cannot find it anywhere.

Fortunately it was an "administrator" account, and the new one is as well however have lost many programs including firefox, photoshop.

Grumpy is not the word


Anyone got any ideas what has happened? Norton is clear as is malware

My computer loads but won't load the fancy settings it's just like a Windows 98 or something with the boring grey colors but there's no explanation when I do system checks

Maybe it's Microsoft making you need win8 by ruining our stuff

I heard about this happening on Vista but never on Win7. Try a system restore back at least 2 days to see if that helps.
If you go into your 'users' folder you should find your old profile still there.

You shouldn't be logging in as an administrator for normal use. It's foolhardy. Make another admin level account and lose the admin privileges on your normal account after you roll back to before it disappeared.

Why is this ?
I know very little about computers but as far as I understand it is only important if others use your pc - is that right ?

checked there. Nothing. It's not a huge problem as I can reinstall things. OK have lost a few pics, but more snaps than photo's. Just a pain in the backside.

i would try what keith suggested. wouldnt be unheard of for a profile to become corrupt.

oh didn't know that.

I assume all files / programmes on the pc would be accessible from a new profile (non admin) - obviously other than those needed for admin purposes.

I've had mega problems with win doze 7 since the latest security update (Sept 13th) - lots of issues about it in the internet.

Am praying that system restore can get me back before it (its failed twice).
