Having had and managed to sort out problems with my Windows 10 system, I now have problems with my Windows 7 system. MS dropped 15 Important Updates on me yesterday and try as I might, I cannot get Windows 7 to download any of them at all. Basically, nothing happens.

Anyone any help or advice please?

Can you download them manually?

I had the same problem. I have downloaded a disc that has sorted mine. I can write it to a cd and send you a copy if you want it. You can get it yourself fro Microsoft's site

Thanks both for the replies.

Gramps: By downloading manually, do you mean by physically clicking on the updates? That's what I've been doing, nothing set to Auto download on my system.

Charly: Do you have a link to the MS page where I can download?

I have just had a look for the page and cannot find it. I have to go out now but will have another look on my return. Meanwhile if anyone knows how to get it to you I have the download on file it is 220mbs in size.

Thanks Broc.

I ran the fix it tool and it's still running some two hours later. Again nothing seems to be happening.

If you run task manager does the tool look like it is still busy?

Windows 7 logs Windows Update activity in a file called WindowsUpdate.txt located in C:\Windows directory, if you scroll to the end you should see what is happening, look out for error codes, search for these codes on the www & it might help you find out what is going wrong.

When I tried the repair my computer ran for ages the came up This computer cannot be repaired. After that it would not boot windows at all. I did a search and found the problem was due to an update when booting up. The Microsoft site.offered a free download to put on a disc or pen stick that you put on the affected computer. I put the file on a cd inserted on my affected computer and it booted windows and it ran perfect. I have searched for a hour and cannot find the site again. sorry gents.
I am now trying to find a way to put the file on the forum.

Just a thought. The file name is KB2840165-Win7- RTM-SP1-X86 I wonder if you put that into google if that will fid it. Worth a try.

Thanks for all the help. Charly, thanks for all your searching and hard work but after reading the information it says "Do not use if your machine can be started manually" and "this will work with 32 bit systems only" Mine is a 64 bit system and I can (at the minute) still start it without any problems, it's just the downloads.

Sorry it was of no use but mine is 64bit and now working ok.

Update on the Updates problem.

I read on Google that someone had just left their system running overnight, so I tried that, it worked. Yesterday it took almost seven hours to do one download, the smallest of the 16. Last night I set the Updates download running at 11pm and all but one had downloaded by 1am. The one that didn't download plus one new one, I tried again this morning and they downloaded in less than two minutes. All very strange.

Thanks to everyone for all the help and advice, really appreciated.

Perhaps the Microsoft download servers were overloaded or running at reduced capacity?

This could be a factor. At some points in the day they do get a run on them
Usually it is when the USA starts to wake up. When I worked in IT we used to make sure our WSUS servers synchronised updates while America slept
