Windows update errors: KB3004394

Sounds like they've pulled the bad update and released a fix update for those that installed it?

Update for Windows 7 (KB3024777)

Install this update to resolve issues in Windows.

anyway, just powered on my home PC and it's picked up new updates. the bad one doesnt show, so no longer an issue (unless youve already installed it, then see the fix KB above) :)

Vindication for those refusing to abandon XP ;-)

Aye, the world was going to end in April and millions of computers were going to be hacked:rolleyes:

no apparent problems here yet. I have Windows 7 professional service pack 1

They are and will be as long as people are running OSes with known unpatched security flaws. It was never going to happen overnight, but it will get cumulatively worse.

Overnight?

8th April to 11th December is one long night:rolleyes:

The media have had story after story after story about it?

Nope it was all MS hype!

Ive just been going through all the windows updates and started getting a load of failures in the last batch, apparently MS botched up the update for KB3004394 so if you have it installed then remove it

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...4-issues/ace25277-7f65-4486-bc44-c1b106907a18

took me a while to track the prob down so might save some people time :)

I usually update windows every couple of months rather than do it automatically.

That way if there was a problem update, it is usually sorted by the time I download it.

Yeah but I was doing a fresh pc install so had 180 updates listed in the queue :-)

I got this 1st thing on Wednesday morning, I noticed in the afternoon the dashboard on my server running WHS2011 would not load from my PC. It would run direct in the server. I put it down to an update and uninstalled all 11 of them and hey presto it worked. Downloaded the fix last night and all ok now.

I'm curious exactly what you are expecting? There's nothing 'hype' about it being a bad idea to run software with known vulnerabilities. Only updating every 3 months? Please don't anyone take after this technically ignorant example!

indeed. you wouldnt keep your old locks knowing they didnt actually lock, because lets face it theres a strong chance a burglar is not going to try your door handle..

Would any of the latest updates cause problems a windows phone? I had a shedload of updates waiting to install and finally pressed the button. Since then, the phone has been acting strange with things hanging and suddenly no emails coming in.
Its a Nokia lumia 1320.

Here's a weird one.

I just looked in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\View update history and it says KB3004394 was installed on 10th December.

But when I go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features\Installed Updates KB3004394 isn't listed, so I can't uninstall it.

o_O:confused:

I would have thought todays update will have removed it and replaced it with the modified version

Bazza & Jim - KB3024777 is also showing in View update history and it also doesn't appear in Installed Updates (see pic below).

The only thing I can think of is KB3024777 has got rid of KB3004394 and then deleted both entries from the Installed Updates list.

Here are the two pages in Control Panel.

Frankly I've never bothered updating Windows, whether XP or Win 7, I just use Avast free on my host PC and malware Bytes in my VMs.

In fact the XPs I run can't be updated as I disabled that feature long ago to stop the updates.

I also run a VPN on the host machine.

I have to say that I have never had an attack on my PC even way back when I was running Windows ME and just using Zone Alarm Free, until it became so bloated as to be almost useless.

The only time a virus got into a VM was when I deliberately introduced Cryptolocker to make sure that Avast could deal with it.

Nowadays it seems far more important to protect all your accounts with ultra strong encryption than worry about a few random idiots.

Mind you I don't surf dodgy sites so probably avoid a great deal of trouble that way.
