This update is causing problems for some people in accessing the 'net ( I know it has affected at least five of us so far as I have sorted two machines and had a few other calls about it).

If someone contacts you to say they cannot access the net blame it on Windows security update kb951748 of 9th July

Suggest they open the:

Control Panel
Install and Delete
click on the UPDATES box at the top
Remove the Windows security update kb951748 and restart your computer to complete uninstall.

I have a suspicion (from just having fixed another machine) that it might reinstall itself as you shut down but it might be something different, I am sure I saw something download but am not going to look until I have to :naughty:

Same update (kb951748) for Vista-and everythings working OK (for me anyway)

I think I read somewhere that this mainly effects XP?
 
Ooh, that's interesting. I couldn't use my broadband yesterday and this morning. The modem connected OK, but Firefox timed out when trying to load web pages. I rang Orange tech support and they said it was a known current issue and advised me to disable my ZoneAlarm firewall ... which did the trick. No mention of the Windows update though, so it might just be a coincidence.

PS I use XP.
 
I installed that on XP machine at work last night with no problems, so it isnt affecting everyone. Not got one for my home machine, but then thats xp64 so may not be subject to that update yet but thanks for info Kerioak, at least if any machines are affected we know where to look :thumbs:
 
Ok here on 3 machines.

Zonealarm is carp imo.
