Hi all

A bit of a mystery???

I had just installed a new laser cart of the non-OEM variety and printed a test page from the test button on the printer and can do the same via the Windows browser GUI for the wireless printer but cannot print anything like an email or a word doc from this PC.

However I can print from my Android phone using, as I have many times, using the HP mobile app...........................and can also print from SWMBO W10 laptop.

All I get in W10 is dialogue come saying print failed user intervention required!!!

A co-incidence or something deeper under the hood needs sorting? The fact that I can still print from other wireless devices and indeed via the printer GUI makes me think that the driver has been corrupted by the how & the why now???

TIA for insights etc :)

Update

Solved(?)

I have double checked and made one change.
It was running on the port described as WSD but changing it to the specific fixed IP address on my mini network has solved the issue.

But still not sure why I had the issue bearing in mind the criteria I outline above i.e. on this PC I can print via the GUI but not via Windows.................................so what is or was it about the WSD wireless port that does not like the presence of the non-OEM cartridge???

Secondary update

I have now learned that WSD is a Windows process for setting up the likes of printers using 'setup & discovery not requiring the use of a USB cable to start with.....'

Now when I first set it up I under W7 (before the overlay update to W10) I used as HP advise the USB then wireless method.............................and thinking back I am sure I allocated the IP address and WSD was not there!

So is this a quirk, I updated to the most current W10 version and it removed Home Group which I had never used and did not miss it. However, perhaps because "it" saw the change in the printer to non-OEM cart as change to the device it rejected its presence ~ supposition on my part but Windows does do odd things sometimes.

Note ~ SWMBO has a Win10 Home version (mine is W10 Pro) but not sure which version she is running. And one test I did was to test print from that laptop and it worked.

@troutfisher if your setup is a wired 'network' i.e. sharing the printer via your wife's PC it might be a port/sharing configuration that needs changing. FWIW the reason I installed a wireless printer is that it it sits connected to the router (via a network switch) and is usable by all devices on the network thus not reliant on any single PC to be running :)

OK FWIW

My W10 is version 1803 and SWMBO laptop is the last version 1709 and the printer in that PC device settings is WSD

So will have to see what happens when hers (a Dell) decides to update to W10 1803 ???

PS note to self to be aware of that should she get print issues following the update/upgrade :)
