Ok I've been a long term Mac user. But been looking at windows 10 laptops and they look appealing indeed. They seem quicker at booting up than Mac do which shocked me. The performance looked right up there. So tempting to switch over. Some these laptops are touch screen too. Coming to price of £700-£800 is appealing

But what you guys reckon or as anyone done such switch.

When I looked at new MbP they took longer boot up which I though was odd

Maybe the Windows had an SSD and the Mac a HDD?

If you like Windows and happy with the performance then maybe save yourself a few hundred and try that route. Not sure if Windows still bogs down after a while? (can of worms opened :p)

Nope both had SSD

I use both systems, a Mac Pro for work and powerful Chillblast Windows 10 PC at home. I also use a MacBook Pro and a Lenovo Windows 10 laptop. I hated Mac at first, couldn't get on with it but after two years I wouldn't hesitate to buy one at home when this PC packs up. Although fairly reliable the Windows 10 interface is a mess, it's better than Windows 8 but still a half baked idea. The Windows laptop is powerful but is very slow, there must be a problem with it but the MacBook just works well all the time. My PC is generally excellent but does blue screen every so often since installing Windows 10 - it was bullet proof with 8. I'm not a fan of any tech company so just say it as I see it, but Apple is definitely a better experience at the minute, and you can have a great retina screen on a Mac

Thank you

Does your windows and Mac laptop both have SSD in if so which you say boots faster

Andy why does boot up time matter so much? I rarely shut mine down, but then if I do boot up time is under 10s. I can cope with waiting 10s every now and again :p

All of my mine have SSDs and the Macs are quicker to boot, substantially with the laptops but I think the Lenovo must be faulty. The Windows PC has similar performance to the Mac Pro when running, but it blue screened again after writing my first response. I've not been without reliability problems with Mac (mainly with Final Cut Pro) but I find they are a bit more stable generally

I use both, Mac at work and pc at home for 3d modelling and photoshop. My experience is different to the above. I have more crashes with my mac and rarely have them on my pc. Both running the latest OS and with SSDs.

My Mac's have been far more reliable than any windows computer I've had. That being said my Mac has been worse since upgrading to OS El Capitan, in future I'm not going to upgrade the OS. I don't have the time or patience to do a fresh install. Still better than my previous PCs though.

I would agree.

Macs rarely crash in the way that Windows machines can.

Maybe I ve had a bad Apple ;).

The biggest problem with windows is it runs on different hardware. Mac's are easier to make stable as it's a known hardware platform. For what it's worth I've given up with my lenovo laptop at work (too many crashes) and switched to a Mbp. But at home I'm still win 10 desktop and laptop (never crashed at home, but I control the build here).

I have a top of the range desktop at home which I built but I recently went for a top end Windows 10 laptop for editing etc. while I'm on the move. I got a Dell 17 5759, 17inch, 2Tb hard drive, 4Gb dedicated Radeon graphics, 16Gb DDR3 ram and Intel Core I7 6500U Dual Core 3.1Ghz with DVD-RW drive and Touchscreen and have thrown many things at it without any hint of slowing down and no crashing. I've used Canon DPP4 and Adobe Photoshop Elements at the same time with a batch of 900+ photos and had no problems with it at all. It was expensive at around £700 but I doubt I'll need to upgrade it for a long time. I've recently put a batch of around 500 raw photos from my 5D SR (50+Mb files) and it coped really well with those too. It copes so well with photos and videos I'm quite happy to use it instead of my desktop for comfort sake.

I've been using a MacBook Pro since 2010 after ditching my Sony Vaio Windows laptop, doubt I'd ever go back to a Windows laptop again.
Mac OSX just works so well for me with very little issue if at all.

I know but I usually buy something if it delivers what I want / needs.... a Sony laptop would most likely not be what I wanted lol especially running Windows!
