Can i upgrade from windows vista home premium to window 7 proffessional?

If I can, is an upgarde or clean install best?

You can certainly upgrade but a clean install will always be better, just more hassle.

Microsoft How-to

I would say Clean is definately the best way to go although it is upgradeable, Windows Vista will no doubt leave behind lots of trash you don't need.

Make sure you have a decent copy/backup of your files whichever way you decide, although it should upgrade and keep your files, better safe than sorry.

Enjoy Win7 it is much better than Vista.

I upgraded from Vista Home Basic 64bit to Windows 7 Professional 64bit but I HAD to do a clean install, I believe it will not work otherwise. Basically, formatted hard drive, installed vista on clean hard drive, then installed the windows7 pro upgrade ontop and activated it.

HTH,

Craig. :)

Cheers, folk for the info, its pretty much the same as I've read already, microsoft says it is and it isn't possible. A bit more research is needed me thinks.

I have just gone from Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate and i decided to bite the bullet and do a clean install.

I would always recommend a clean install. I have done an upgrade for someone once - but I needed a lot of arm twistin before doing it.

I'd rec a clean install - back up my Docs etc to a seperate HDD / DVD etc and then do a clean install.

I'm guessing you'd rather just do a normal upgrade than clean install then?

Yep but it can't be done, downloaded the windows 7 upgrade advisor and it tells me that I can only upgrade to windows 7 home and need to do a clean install for windows 7 professional.

Hmmmm.. as per my post then.

Use EasyTransfer to store all of your files and documents, then use the reverse once W7 is in place.

This will keep all files and documents in the right palce
