Since I like the quicklaunch facility I "brought it back from the dead" on W7 using this guide.

All was fine for a few months, but a couple of days ago quicklaunch disappeared after a restart. I've put it back again, but it keeps doing it. I've tried locking the taskbar and that's no use either.

Anyone have any ideas? It's starting to drive me a bit mental...

Cheers Neil, I've tried that too (I think - copied the quicklaunch folder to my C drive and aimed the toolbar at that) and it's still not working. Wondering if system restore might sort it out..

Quote from the guide

"10. If you have a 32-bit Windows 7, then it has been reported that you may need to turn off UAC if Quick Launch is disappearing on you after every restart."

User Account control can be turned off under control panel > system and security See if that solves it : )

Thanks - should have mentioned that it's 64 bit. Have checked UAC anyway, and it appears to still be turned off :)

I used that tutorial on my 64bit Windows 7 and my quick launch bar has been a permanent feature since, I also have the taskbar locked. I know this doesn't really help you but just wanted to add that the tutorial works OK

Cheers
Ian

Cheers - similarly mine was fine until recently.

Last night I added it yet again, but through lazyness left it on th RHS of the screen and left the text there.. and it's still there this morning. How odd..

Get a Mac:D

lol - a Mac's not likely, given that this PC is only 3 months old..

Started the machine earlier and surprise, surprise, the QL toolbar was missing again.

Ran system restore to a point a couple of weeks ago and it miraculously re-appeared.. wondering the situation's been caused by windows updates.

Hopefully it'll stay there now, will just have to keep an eye on it.

I got windows 7 speech recognition enabled on mine, who needs to be pressing buttons to open programs ;)
