Windows 7 automatically logging off after a couple of mins

Windows 7 is driving me nuts.. If I leave the computer for any more than a few minutes it goes to the log on screen, I have to click my icon to get back to the desktop.. no password required..

Before anyone asked.. I don't have the screen savers option selected "on resume require password" or in the power settings "on wake go to logon screen..

Anyone any other ideas.. I swear it goes away for a while then windows updates and it starts it again..
 
Control panel > hardware and sound > power options > Balanced - change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Sleep > Sleep after > set to never > apply > OK
 
One of my colleague's PCs in the office goes to sleep and then wakes itself up after some time and locks itself. Maybe a similar thing happening here.
 
This is a known fault on Windows 7.

Right click the desktop, click "Properties", on the bottom right of the screen is the "Screen Saver" icon, click it and when it opens un-check the "On resume, display logon screen". This may be checked even though the screen-saver is set to none.

I already have this unchecked.. It's going to the log on screen even before the screen saver kicks in after 3 mins!!
 
There isn't any other piece of (security) software on your machine doing this ,maybe?
 
I don't think so, I only use windows security essentials.. I swear it stopped it a while back, then windows updates and it starts it again.. bloody annoying
 
It must be something to do with the Power options in the System, Control panel then.

How about selecting the High Performance plan?
 
I have a netbook does this also - none of the above suggestions stop it.
Agree it's relate to updates, the recent batch set it off again.
 
OK, it has seemed to fix itself, the only thing I did this morning is was to enable the "On resume, display logon screen" and then disable it again as it wasn't working.. hope it stays this way..
 
Back doing it again!!! turned the computer off and on and it was back to the same thing.. grrr
 
Have you tried the 'high performance' power plan as suggested above? That will prevent things powering down and triggering something.

No, I will try when home tonight, but I do have everything set to never.. will give it a go..
