I got a new PC last week.
I have no use for Excel and most of the other facilities in MS 365. It would be nice to have Word.
I only need a fairly basic word processer. I tried to use Wordpad, but did not achieve very much before being interrupted by a splash screen offering a 5 day free trial of Microsoft 365. Closing that screen down blocked me using Wordpad. I cannot find anyway of getting access to WordPad.
Searches on the web have not revealed a solution.
Before I opt for Libre Office or similar can anyone provide a means to activate WordPad and get rid of the MS splash screen.
Please help if you can.

If you have a root round , control panel, file or manager you should see MS Office 365 folder which is not installed along with the rest of the garbage like Norton , McAffee etc.
Delete it , that's what I did with my new laptop ( win 11) then wordpad opens with no problem, open office works fine if you want excel etc.
As a matter of course I always get rid of the trial programs , its too easy to start the trial by mistake

Wordpad is fine on the laptop I upgraded from W10 to 11. I would take @troutfisher's advice to delete the trial folders and if that doesn't work then Libre Office is an excellent option.

Just install Freeoffice, it's all I've used for a few years now....

I'll have a look at that, thanks. I had not heard of it.

I cannot find these files.

MS ............. does that mean Mafia soft now?
Bite the bullet, it's a great free option. :)

I recall having that one back in W7 days. I think I dropped it in favour of Apache Open Office, but the latter seems to have fallen by the wayside
Reckon Libre is worth a try. (y)

Yes, Notepad is there. It is basic ...........extremely basic.
Thank you, nevertheless.
Basic, yes, but that's what I like about it. I use it for jotting stuff down, pasting urls I might want to check out at a later date. And pasting info from Wikipedia and other sites to use in a doc, email, forum post, as notepad removes embedded media and formatting.

I use Libre when composing a letter/doc I might want to print. But my printer packed up a couple of years ago and I never bothered replacing it. I no longer need/want a printer, I've evolved, I can live without it.

Just finished installing Libre (which uses .odt files). Uneventful setup apart from a small detour to make Libre the default program for opening these files (otherwise they are opened by the default Word ...... thereby throwing up the troublesome MS 365 Office advert again ).
Libre looking good
You could try using Notepad++ which has more features and saves the tabs so you can go back and re-edit it another day

I'll look at that one (y)

Yip, I started using Notepad for the very same purpose last night. Sure beats scribbling on a bit of paper.

Can you name a single reason not use class leading FOSS and 100% free software over antiquated proprietary garbage?
