How is it that if you take a pic of a person standing face on in front of you the image obtained will correctly show the left arm as the left arm and the right arm as the right arm, and yet, if you face a full length mirror left and right arms are transposed?

Since the image in the mirror reverses left and right why does it not show the person upside down?

Now imagine standing with your back to the mirror. Left and right are no longer are transposed.

Clearly the brain is capable of some wonderfull trickery which maybe goes to explain that when I look at pics I have taken what I saw (or thought I saw) in the viewfinder was something else.
 
The image is focused on the sensor back to front and upside down but processed as a film negative would be so that it prints the right way round, no brain trickery involved. :)

Indeed, I never thought there was in respect of the camera image, but there is in respect of the mirror and in respect of how the human eye views other things.
