Recently upgraded my Windows 7 32bit to Windows 10 32bit, now I'm trying to upgrade to the 64bit version, I've used the Microsoft media creation tool and created a bootable Disc with Win 64bit, Disc boots ok, goes through the installation process ok and then reboots from my system disk (SSD), I then get the Win 10 logo complete with scrolling dots as the system boots, the screen then goes black while the drive light indicates normal disk activity, it's as though Windows is running in the background. any ideas what the problem could be?

I have been installing Win.10 64bit as a clean install, (download the disc image from Microsoft), the OS install ok and as far as I'm aware it's running ok behind the blank screen I'm looking at. I've downloaded and I'm about to install the latest bios update (a cap) file?, as Asus have issued around six updates to my current (new) bios each containing references to Win.10 64bit compatibility fixes.

Right so you formatted the drive during the 64bit install and doing a clean install?

Hard drive light is no indication windows has loaded correctly. How long have you left it on the black screen? Presumably it went though the white circle with the percentage stage?

Ok flashed the bios with the latest update, clean installed Win.10 64bit (again) but still left looking at a blank screen after installation. . . Borrowed a copy of Win.7 64bit will try that tomorrow to determine whether it's a Win.10 or a 64bit issue.

Unfortunately the Win7 64bit disc was a recovery CD and wouldn't install (only option to repair startup etc.) However I noticed a number of other updates on the ASUS support site for for my motherboard ie. graphics, CPU, SATA & LAN etc. most of these reference Windows 10 64bit. I'm considering applying these but I'm not sure whether they will subsequently be discarded during a clean Windows install, or if they are saved onto ROM chips on the motherboard.

Ok problem solved, over a week of multiple Windows 7, 10 32bit & 10 64bit instalations, surfing the internet asking questions and looking for answers I finally noticed (while staring at yet another blank screen) that the data lights on my router were flashing like fairy lights on speed, I disconnected the ethernet cable and the installation process suddenly completed and the (64bit) Windows 10 operating system sprung to life. Now I have to decide whether to get a 1Tb internal HDD and use my current 400Mb HDD as a scratch drive for PS, or if I would benefit more from another 8Gb ram stick.
