"Win a Speedlight Softbox" Portrait Challenge AUGUST 2009

Ok - I'll have a go, I was trying for something dark and moody using a 170 lumens LED torch and two reflectors in a pitch black room. Unfortunately my eldest wasn't very accomadating and got bored super quick, this was the best of the bunch.

notice swmbo holding the torch and my little girls very annoyed face!

I don't think my setup needs explanation! There's a really cool green light close to where I live. It got used. That's pretty much it :D

I'll come up with something tomorrow! Some great entries in here :) In fact... just had an idea now but no tripod :bang:

Can anybody please advise me again why my photos haven't appeared on the thread.

I have placed the link to the site

But nothing is showing

You are posting the page link and not the image link. go to the flickr image and select the image size you want and copy the bottom section of code and paste that instead. make sure the image you select is 800px or less on the longest side so looking at you flickr that would be the 500px image. hope this helps.

Hi Flash
Not a portrait as such - Ok, not at all, and didn't set up the lighting, so feel free to run me out of town.

Here's my effort taken of my daughter whilst she was watching Dora the explorer

(she didn't move as she was engrossed in Dora...I could have taken loads!!). The only light was the TV light.....

I've got no experience of shooting posed portraits and as far as lighting goes I've only ever used on camera bounced flash before, so I particularly enjoyed having a go at this challenge.

The setup was 2 X 150W halogen worklamps (although one was looking very weak/dim) mounted on a pole suspended over the bath and shining through the white shower curtain as a diffuser. I used the white(ish) bathroom door as a reflector to fill. I did also try throwing a dark towel over the door to reduce the fill but the back of my model's hair vanished into the background.

Here is the setup....

great idea this one.i nearly gave up its taken me an hour trying to get photobucket to work :bang:

anyway heres what ive got i saw these "artists" wireing up hundreds of plastic bottles with leds inside they were working under a quite bright but harsh lamp.

so i bounced it of the wall behind him and had him stand over some of the bottles that were allready wired to give some front light shining from below.

had to experiment a bit to get it right as i wanted a catchlight,i could of lightened in photoshop but i like it dark as i saw it.

i shot in b&w as the whole scene seemed monochromatic,

it would of driven me crazy wireing all these up there were hundreds of the things.
