Novatech sell an OEM version for around £80. It's a developer disk though so if you make a mistake installing it can be a bit of a pain...
oem isnt a developer disk, technically its for system builders..
Yes, you're right, I was just being lazy in my choice of words! Either way it's not ideal if you've got no experience of installing an OS, but if you have it's a good way of saving a few quid.
Looking for 32 bit probably ultimate, thanks for your replies,oh i dont know any students.![]()

The reason i only want the 32 bit for now is because i have some older games that wont work with 64 bit,it has to be 32 bit.![]()
It won't run 16 bit apps though, the games he is talking about may be 16 bit jobbies that run under NTVDM. On 32 bit Windows, I have a few that actually run fine under NTVDM as if it is DOS - others I must use DOSbox for.
good point, didnt think theyd be that old..

it depends how old the computer is, if i remember rightly you need a compatible hardware architecture that has virtualization support to run XP mode
Hardware virtualisation having been around for at least 10 years, it depends more on the cheapness of the processor that was purchased.
However, I think that software virtualisation was supported as well.
Yup... you do fro the one that ships with Win7. But you can run s/w virtualisation on any processor (e.g. virtualbox).it depends how old the computer is, if i remember rightly you need a compatible hardware architecture that has virtualization support to run XP mode
If you need to network two or more pcs go for the ultimate version, for some reason MS crippled networking in the Home versions.
